Don't think it's limited to Chinese brands, though. A friend's wife had a Peugeot 208 sat on their drive for 2 months waiting for a part that allows it to charge. £1.4k I believe too. Luckily she WFH

one of the unintended consequences of the push to EV ownership
Supply and repair chains haven’t really caught up
I will be interested to see what happens (if anything) when there is a significant number of EVs having their first MOT

Er.. Daughter has had a Dolpnin for over 2 years. & can confirm it is a FULLY Electric car. Great little car. 8500 miles £165 charging costs. No problems at all. 2 year servicing.
Yes they have just brought out the DMi version.

Given EV's have been around for over 10 years. They are well past that point of 1 mot's
My 2021 e-niro sailed through 3 MOT without any advisories.

Nothing to do with the motive power.
Everything to do with Chinese bargain-basement brands.
Sure, some of the established manufacturers have the odd supply-chain issue, but a couple of months wait for something that's not a stock item is - again - not unknown.0 -
Yet the oe equivalent market for established car is solid. My neighbour had an issue with his bmw the bmw part was on back order with a 1 month wait. The replacement oe part arrived next day. That’s not something that is going to happen with a BYD for example, as they claim to make all the parts themselves. Until there is a big enough market for spares in the uk. The supply issue won’t go away.

Well, there are fewer parts related to the MOT test that can be assessed for an EV than for an ICE.
EVs are guaranteed to pass the emissions test.

Go onto any Marque car forum & you will find cases of long waits for parts. Covid put paid to manufactures holding lots of spare parts.

So has my Suzuki Baleno - now 10 years old - sailed through every MOT so far !
OK So that's another car out of my list - what is recommended ?
sub £30k - it must be a smallish car - that can take a wheelchair - and three people in comfort !
I am assuming a hybrid but…
it must also be an automatic (preferably torque convertor)
What does the forum recommend ?
If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.0
