Why are petrol prices so high?

Pre covid when business travel was a bit more common we had a fuel card that seemed to be universal for fuel stations. Every so often we'd get a reminder not to fill up at service stations due to the cost. We always assumed these coincided with it being found out that some had used a service station...
We could also pay ourselves and claim the costs back - this was preferred as there was less paperwork. We were also forbidden to collect any form of loyalty points on T&S. Though I think that's been removed from the guidance as they'd rather we collected 3 points for a meal deal than claim the extra cost for not using our loyalty cards.
For topping up myself, I check the petrol prices app and go to the cheapest most convenient fuel station. If I'm going somewhere different then I'll look to see if it's cheaper there, this week there was a 10p difference but was maybe 15 miles away, I wouldn't drive that just to save 10ppl on fuel.

The price of petrol and diesel is probably not going to be a problem in the next few months if things carry on the way they have been. Getting any fuel at looks as if it will become an issue.
