Why are petrol prices so high?

Lack of supply elsewhere like Russia is probably meaning the current market is being pushed up as a result
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
A lot of the responses seem to suggest that it is tax that is responsible for the difference. However, the experts are saying that the price at the pump should increase by 7p for every $10 a barrel increase, so that should include tax.
It’s more a point of curiosity for me, as I can’t see how the reality on the ground stacks up with what the experts are saying.

Who are these experts and where are they saying this? There will presumably be caveats, assumptions, etc…

They aren’t specifically named but the comment is mentioned in this article (and has been repeated by the BBC more recently).

I only ever put £10 in.
Now the range increases by 40 miles, last year it was 55 or so…
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

You also need to factor in $ to £ exchange rate.

So high, but also so variable. Today we filled the tank for £1.61/litre (E10) - after passing other local stations charging anything between £1.67 and £1.71. I suspect that if more people used Fuel Map UK or other sites, these pointless variations would disappear.

Thise who claim back the fuel on expenses don’t care. They are not paying for it.
Locally there were two fuel stations , one on each side of a quiet rural road, in sight of each other. It was easy to compare prices.
One was always dearer than the other but drivers still passed the cheaper one and used the dearer one.

As well as those that don't care, there are some that have no choice.
