Full Fibre and sockets?

My broadband is called "fast fibre" but i think is just the copper wire connected to phone line. (Sorry am not technical)

Been looking to upgrade to full fibre but think i might have a problem with new socket for full fibre

My phone socket is in the kitchen and my son fitted an extension cable from that up to the bedroom where my computer is. The bedroom socket is on an inner wall and both sockets have a "splitter"

Just wondering if I might have a problem with an engineer regarding this.

A full fibre solution will not connect to your existing phone line. They will install a new connector and plug you new router into the socket. This will need a nearby power socket.

A full-fibre install would not be able to utilise a phone extension cable/socket.

Other installers would be very similar.

One point, is your current service served by poles? Could maybe have the entry point to your house upstairs?

It sounds like you might have 'fibre to Cabinet' which means its fibre to the outside (corrected) of your home but not a Full Fibre connection. As people have said, you would have a BT engineer & maybe a contractor from the provider putting in a new connection from for Full Fibre.

I've just changed to a company called Zen, quite happy with them. Although it looks like I'll need a new handset/phone to use the new digital phone service, as we wanted to keep our phone line.

There were a few communication issues between BT & the Zen contract I think, install notifications didn't mach up!

I think you mean FTTC aka Fibre to the cabinet - which isn't full fibre.
FTTP aka Fibre to the property is full fibre.

Yes the pole is just a few yards from my house but would they install to an upper level?

Can't see why not (but I'm not a fibre installer). A requirement of the install is that the box that sits on your inside wall needs an electricity supply, so that can sometimes be problematic.

Are you intending to continue with a telephone service? Have you been converted to Digital Voice already?

No i can do without the phone.

The problem is, the wriring would come through the upper wall and have to cross the landing into the bedroom on the other side. Thats why i thought it was a one starter. I have to have the pc in that room.

It is looking like i might have to stick with the set up i have but go for a better one.

At some point you will have to move from copper to a fibre service, so worth thinking about it sooner rather than later, even if you don't make the change just yet

Have you got a wireless card in your pc?
