Apple replaced the SE with the e last year. Whilst the 17e is now 12 months old its anticipated that tomorrows announcencemtns will only include the Pro and Ultra phones with the Air, standard and e models to be anounced in spring instead. Its not just a name change though, the e is closer to its standard model than the old SE models were.

As always the price of old models will go down when the new models are announced so if you can hold out until spring you may be able to get more for the same price or pay less for one of the models suggested above

I second this. You can also look into last year's 16E. Its the same size as the 17E, with most of the same features. And it will be cheaper.

XR is no use to me now because it’s no longer properly supported. I was after something that would carry on receiving updates for a few years yet. I keep them till they die, basically.

Unfortunately with the launch of the new iPhone 18 the 17e has jumped in price to £699.00

I have an iPhone 13, which was probably the last of the truly "pocket size" iPhones and similar in size to the SE.

For a specific application that wasn't available on iPhones, I bought a cheap Android Motorola G35. Much to my surprise this huge mobile fits in my shirt pocket, it is 166.3 x 76 x 7.8 mm

If size matters, then one of the newer iPhone "e" models such as the 17e, is 146.7 x 71.5 x 7.8 mm and would fit a shirt top pocket.

I noticed that the newly announced iPhones fail to meet the upcoming EU requirement to have user replaceable batteries… I wonder how Apple will get around that.
