But with deeper integration with the TV, if its built in, it can be the source for the TV guide and operate like arial/satellite TV rather than being an app you have to explicitly go into

So, with poor rural internet it will be a worse experience?

Broadcast TV over the air is a one-to-many i.e you have one transmitter and many receivers - you could have a million or a hundred million TVs receiving the signal
internet TV is a one to one i.e the server has to individually serve each TV connected to a network - (each extra tv requires extra bandwidth) and is more environmentally costly
This is particularly true with large events so for example if everybody watches the World Cup final, the Kings Christmas message, Coronation Street, Traitors or even the news - broadcast TV is more efficient
Less so obviously for niche programmes

If your internet connection is slow enough not to cope with a TV stream then yes.

This is not correct. Freely and iPlayer live TV. Broadcast over the internet (one to many using your language). They utilise regional hubs.

AIUI neither freely or iPlayer use multicast streaming. They plan to but its work in progress

Freely uses more resources than terrestrial TV; google for details.

I hoping that the switching off of freeview will be kicked into the long grass around 2040 -
I have a hard drive linked up to my LG TV that records the freeview channels that interest me (mostly Quest at the moment and occasionally Film 4).
Transitioning to exclusively Internet broadcasting of channels will kill my ability to record programs, especially when I am away abroad.
