Your negative flight experience/s?

A child of about 10 throwing up. For some reason he was sat a number of rows away from his family group so was alone when it happened.

A smoker constantly coughing for hours on a flight from India.

Strange… the rules on liquids mean that whisky (or any liquid in your hand luggage) will be confiscated if you need to change 'planes. The only exception is that if you buy in a duty-free shop within the EU and then change 'planes at another airport within the EU, you are allowed to keep your alcohol, and then only if it is sealed in a clear bag with the receipt visible.

Therefore… there was never any chance that you could have completed your journey with your whisky. The promise to return it the next morning was never going to be honoured.

And a footnote… I once bought a bottle of whisky at a duty-free shop in an African airport, and then security at the departure gate (same airport) wanted to confiscate it!

Simply going on information given by the airline at the time. It was duty free but obviously not bought in the EU.

Indeed. I was pleasantly surprised with our recent trip that everyone we spoke to was able to speak English. Most were quite clear. I struggled with the guide we had on one tour but I'm not sure whether that was her accent or the one ear piece we were given (vs a 2 ear headphone setup).

The majority of them seemed to smell the English on us as they'd immediately speak in English before we even said a word. Some would speak in their tongue until we spoke & then would immediately switch.

The only time I actually had any trouble (and i wouldn't even say it was bad enough to be called trouble) was at the airport (which reminds me - I need to ask something about that, so another thread going up in a sec) when we were leaving. As we came in I took everything off, didn't think about the watch & was allowed through security. When it came time to come back home though the guy was speaking to me & I had to guess what he was wanting me to do until he finally asked if I spoke English, I said yes & he said take off your watch. It's only because I never got pulled up on it coming in that I didn't even pay it any mind. I'll know for next time though.

Oh that's terrible!

I guess you had to just take it on the chin then? Complaints lead nowhere? That's if you even complained. I suppose it'd end up as a case of "not me officer".

Only one bad flight experience, landing at Bristol in very heavy rain. Virtually touched down when the pilot decided to go around and try again. Once on the ground we could feel the plane moving from side to side.

Only other bad experience was Dalaman airport where they seem to have perfected the arts of incompetence and overcharging.

Only ever had one fly-around, Antigua, a light aircraft wasn't quite clear of the runway taking off as we were landing.

Quite a jolt to the system when the plane goes from burble-burble landing to full-power take-off.

Taking the thread title very literally, I found it quite unsettling when landing at Lelystad airport in the Netherlands and, when looking over the pilot's shoulder (in a small plane, pre-9/11), seeing the altimeter going negative, as the airport is below sea level on reclaimed land…

Negative sea level altitude would concentrate the mind !!!

When we flew to Madeira some years ago I made the mistake of peering out the window on final approach - had no idea the "airport" was basically a single runway jutting out from the island - somebody likened it to landing on an aircraft carrier 😮
