My son wanted sofa couch for his bedroom and that is what he got.
He was 50 this year and still had that couch.
Not a glamorous gift but a useful means what he wanted.1 -
got married the day before my 21st and got the bumps at midnight at the wedding reception as i turned 21.
I think my present from my parents went towards the wedding.
still married with grandkids now

"Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz, My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends"

I like the idea of getting her a voucher or experience that’s a little break from the baby - maybe throw in babysitting too. Guessing her mum provides most of the babysitting - what about getting them both a joint experience (dinner/concert/spa day) etc so they can have time together that’s not about the baby, and you get bonus bonding time with the baby.
Or if they don’t have that kind of relationship, a voucher to one of the big ticket platforms (AXS, Ticketmaster etc) so your granddaughter can choose a couple of great seats for a gig?

Unless you are buying her something she wouldn't buy for herself, then whatever you give her is freeing up funds that she could spend on a tattoo, so I wouldn't get too hung up on what she appears to be spending the money on.

I’m with you on this. Granny doesn’t like tattoos, so granny isn’t paying for a tattoo. Full stop. Choose something else. And if it means the buying something else frees up money to be spent on a tattoo, so be it. Granny still isn’t paying for the tattoo.

Because, otherwise she could go around saying "My Gran got me this tattoo"
I'm guessing you wouldn't want that.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 3.24% of current retirement "pot" (as at end December 2025)2 -
The decision is made! She’s getting a Spa day, but with her Mum and big sister as I can’t do spas. ☹️ Plus a case of Prosecco for her party and a Pandora bead given to me by her late Grandpa as her Mum is getting her a bracelet. 🧖♀️💆🏻♀️💅🍾🥂💍

Lovely gestures.
(She may not seem to treasure the bead much now, but she may well come to in future years - I’ve experienced this transformation myself :)
