I'm in for the autumn! It's been a challenging year but I'm finally getting back on an even keel so it's time to start achieving stuff again!
I need to really think about my list but to kick it off, there are a few OATs I really need to get done....
- Clear out, clean and reorganise my wardrobe - I'm pretty sure I've got clothing in there that I haven't worn in over 20 years when I was a size 4-6!! 😳
- Get the old towels and bedding to the local wildlife rescue - they've been sitting around in my grandbaby's bedroom for months!
- Get the veggie beds cleared (where required), weeded and topped up with compost.
- Start on the garden revamp (I've broken it down to smaller areas (about 12 of them I think) so I'd like to complete 2 this autumn.
- Get my toilet 'bombs' made - I bought the stuff for them ages ago but haven't got round to it yet.
- Pick elderberries and make cordial
- Pick damsons and make chutney and jam
- Harvest beetroot and pickle
- Do a deep clean in the yoga room.
- Start the C25K challenge
- Start doing home 'gym' sessions once or twice a week
- Stick to my daily yoga and mindfulness practices.
I also need to do an entire house deep clean but that may end up being a winter job depending on when my foster cats leave - there are 4 of them and they have destroyed carpets, furnishings, walls and woodwork in the yoga room, hall, stairs and landing so once they have gone, I'll be deep cleaning, redecorating and replacing carpets etc - absolutely no point in doing anything before their departure! I am deep cleaning the yoga room though which is where their food bowls and toys are (plus they sleep in there when I'm not around) as one of them was so timid she literally hid in the room for the first two months she was here so I just did very basic cleaning in there to avoid traumatising her any further! She's fine now and happy to leave the room so it's time to get it back to a reasonable standard! 🙄
It's going to be a busy autumn!! 😳😂

I would like to join please. I did follow the Summer thread but was in the process of moving to a one bed bungalow in a new area after a long term break up. My new home is lovely just right for me but in the process of a rather hurried move I still have things to sort through. Unfortunately after two falls in the last few weeks my right hand/arm is in a splint ( I am right handed) so its a slow process. Todays oat was filling a charity bag with summer clothes I no longer need just waiting for someone to visit so that I can access winter clothes stored inside bed base. 😂

I have been reading along and would like to post occasionally to keep me motivated. @PollyWollyDoodle inspired this post, as I too have no problem dealing with the rough and tumble of people in my professional life as a lawyer, but become an apologetic, trembling wreck whenever I have to deal with people (usually men) doing work in my house or on my car. I’m so eager to please that I embarrass myself! I have several OATS to deal with arising out of the snagging on my new build house. And they literally scare me! My long marriage (no children) broke down 7 years ago when I was close to 60. I’m retiring from my paid work in a couple of months. I lost a lot of confidence about managing difficult personal situations in consequence of the marriage situation (and I still wonder how I got through the carnage and out the other side ). Today’s OAT is to book my car into the garage to get a persistent battery problem looked at. I bought a new battery during the MOT in July but that hasn’t made a difference. And I’ve sat on the problem with my eyes closed, whistling away to myself, hoping it’s going to disappear. Which it won’t! Thank you all for motivating me to take better care of my OATs and therefore myself. I will return to confirm that I have booked the car in without becoming too scared of the ‘garage man’ who is always kind (so what’s my problem!).

oh @kintsugiwhippet that makes me feel so much better, I always feel really daft for being so feeble about this sort of thing.
I do sympathise about the separation/break up, it’s exhausting and debilitating, luckily mine was many years ago; I hope you are starting to recover your self-confidence and sense of self.
I go to a garage that’s staffed by two lovely women who never talk down to you and explain everything carefully. I have no idea what the mechanics are like, I go there because I don’t get mansplained or patronised. And like you I will ignore problems rather than tackle them.
I have lots of other OATs like sorting out the wardrobe, filing etc but they’re not the ones looming over me.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.6 -
Today I replied to a nwest complaint response within minutes, instead of psyching myself up for days. I needed to tell them they hadn't actually resolved my problem and suggest how they could do that. So tedious!
I've started a pile of summer clothes that can go back into storage. I'll add to it over the next few days until the storage bag is full and can go back in the attic. It's a start!
Not really OATs but things that would quickly become OATs.
I'm also planning on getting a settlement figure for my loan today - done!

Welcome @BridgetTheCat, lovely profile pic! That is a solid list, do report back on how it's going 😊 The MSE broadband guide is helpful when you get to that OAT
That is definitely enough @KajiKita! Your already gorgeous outdoor space will be amazing after that lot. Is it worth booking a health check about middle expansion? Very common to get a bit of spread at our sort of age but it's so easy for women's health to be dismissed
Nice to see you again @PollyWollyDoodle, that sounds a proper quality of life list, you will feel so much happier once it's done. I also hate the whole tradespeople process, although I think everyone does! You can do it 💪
Haha that is a busy autumn @leftatthetrafficlights but once one has got that 'it's time' feeling then lists are getting smashed 🍻
Oh ouch @Four_Seasons hope you heal quickly and smoothly. Congratulations on your new home and recovering from a big life change. Any progress is good progress
Ah that sounds an awful lot to have to go through @KintsugiWhippet, well done you for coming out the other side. Get you already having booked the garage 🥂
Fabulous OAT prevention @Rhyddid2026 and yaaas to the loan settlement progress 👏
Well done on OAT recognition @in_need_of_direction, I wonder if there's some sort of website that will help you compare deals 🤔 😂
