You are 100% correct…..they will say "no way" you cant …wont get that deal or monthly cost …..wasting your time…then over the next days even weeks make much lower offers…if you hold out !

In other words its a protracted lie so you pay more straight off the bat which many do… it works obviously .

Its the business model they use …..

Messing people/customers around is how the whole thing works.

As they know people do not have time or just cant be bovvered wasting time during "every contract renewal "so they all do it to varying degrees…. not just broadband .

They will have percantage figures how this business model increases profits .

Its like we have gone back in time to market bartering ie getting ripped off in many instances….which is standard practise in third world countrys .

Your last paragraph is nonsense, you've always had to negotiate for a better deal at the end of minimum term for almost anything. If you don't want to pay it, go elsewhere. The 3rd world countries comment is actually offensive.

I have just had a call with Sky about a deal for my broadband for my new address, they offered nothing for 8 years loyalty, so I have just cancelled, lets see if they contact me in next few days lol

We were with Virgin Media for 20 years and it became a routine at the end of the contract to ring to say we wanted to cancel and then be put through to retentions. We'd normally get an acceptable deal until 2/3 years ago. They weren't budging much at all so we cancelled and started the switch to Sky with an Openreach install booked in. Then we got a call and a much improved offer from Virgin. Too late, and even with the Sky/Openreach cooling off period we said no thanks. We figured the switch to Openreach full fibre gave us more options in the future, and it has, particularly now that the Sky out of contract bill is ridiculous. We should have a simple switch to Vodafone for less than half the renewal offer that Sky have shared. That was a renewal for 150 Mbps, the Vodafone deal is for 900 Mbps, over 50% saving and 6 x the speed.

We're cancelling our TV and going with Freesat as it covers my partner's needs. We had a Sky Q box with Satellite dish which we can connect to Freesat. No TV subscriptions to worry about.

Unlike house and car insurance where you at least get a reminder and renewal figure and then leave, with TV/broadband you need to put something in the diary as a reminder.

Just remember that Sky will want their equipment back including your Sky Q box ,so you will need to buy a Freesat box that is compatible with the LNB used by Sky.
