Most cost efficient way to keep toilet hygienic?

There are only 2 of us so it gets flushed maybe 8 times a day. The cheapest option, blue blocks in the cistern, dissolve very quickly. The ones that hang over the rim "does up to 300 flushes" not a chance, they don't, they last about 10 days. Bleach is cheap and works well but you have to remember to pour some in regularly. What toilet hygiene method is cost effective and efficient?

Normal use keeps things hygienic with just two of you perhaps a periodic wipe around with wet cloth.

Gets cleaned the same as normal with bleach, no need for extra spending on blocks etc.

Well its not that much to remember as you just do it when the bottom of the bowl starts to look dirty and/or when you'd normally clean the bathroom of daily dust and debris.

Best hygiene is to only use the toilet for its purpose, no holding phones or readers in the vicinity. Always close the lid before flushing to prevent air borne germs. Wipe clean and occasional bleach.

The area above the rim - around the seat etc - will need a clean as any in-cistern or rim-block type products can't help there. I just put a squirt of loo cleaner around under the rim whenever I wipe down the other parts of the loo, and that keeps everything spotless.

If you're in a hard water area then you may want to use a specific anti-limescale product.

In fact I use a dish brush with long handle.

You can get non bleach bleach that's supposed to be kinder to the environment.

I try to remember to use bleach (or occasionally another product as we're in a hard water area) either overnight or when we're going to be out for the day. Weekly is usually enough for this.

I wipe all surfaces after every shower when I'm doing the rest of the bathroom.

You are pouring chemicals into the environment- probably for little gain as mentioned in the other posts.

I find the above really good and long lasting, but it does depend on where you place them, I have them so they don't get washed away every flush.
