Travel Money Card
Hi all,
I currently have a Post Office travel money card however due to issues with it not working and their assistance being less than helpful, I’m looking to get an alternative. I’m wanting a card I can preload with the relevant currency however I’m open to a travel debit card if that is a better option. I’m not particularly wanting to set up an entirely new bank account and any card would ideally link to my existing bank account, not entirely sure how much of an option this is.
Are there any recommendations I can look at? Many thanks.

What problems are you having and how are they not helpful? I've never had a problem getting help when I phone them

It won’t allow me to top the card up, tried six different payment cards but none work. The help centre says that it I’ve to go to the bank but given all those cards work for other payments, it’s an issue with the post office app. Help centre won’t do much more than that so I’ve given up!

is this on the website? I recently couldn't top up on the website and rang them. She took details and reported the error but advised me to use the app. I downloaded the app and topped up ok.
you can also go to any post office and top up with cash or debit card.2026 wins - Parker Pen, American Sweets bundle, dish magic bundle, NEU shots & a NEU training T-shirt, ToeZone Shoes Worth £32

It’s via the app surprisingly. I might look at the website though and try that

yes she emailed me while I was on holiday saying the problem had been fixed but I didn't need it then

Why not?
Its prudent to have a 2nd bank account anyway given stories on here of people having their main (and only) one frozen for weeks with no access to funds.

The OP would be much better off with an app based "user friendly" debit card for foreign travel - such as Starling, Chase or Monzo.
Our joint Starling cards have worked flawlessly when abroad - and their customer service agents are very good. We wouldn't be without it. I also have a single Chase card as backup and never had any issues.
Stating the obvious - but such a debit card with sufficient funds loaded is essentially no different to a pre-paid card when it comes to paying for goods and services - and the FX rates are better.

As mentioned better off with any of the options NoodleDoodleMan suggested!
Once linked with your main current account, you simply load the card when needed!
I have a separate Travel wallet, that I keep my Monzo and Revolut card in!
The last time I travelled, I just used my Chase debit card, as I was still eligible for cashback then!
Not used Starling, but I remember the Revolut app, used to display the real time exchange rates!

Do any of those six different payment cards offer competitive non-sterling transaction rates?

I use both Starling and Chase for overseas spending, both have worked flawlessly.
