Shrunken band merchandise

On what basis?
Not faulty.

It is faulty if it shrank two sizes after washing in accordance with the manufacturers instructions!
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0 -
Except fr a chargeback it has to be faulty on purchase, not at any point later.

But it was faulty at purchase if it shrank the first time it was washed - the fault that caused it to shrink existed when it was manufactured

Bear in mind, if you do decide on further action (legal?), a Solicitor’s letter will almost certainly cost more than £50.
There shouldn't be any need to involve a solicitor in this.

- How can one prove you didn't wash it at more than 30 degrees.
- What to do if, as likely, they contest the chargeback.
My advice would be chalk it down to experience, don't pay silly money for a t-shirt worth a few quid and don't involve Citizens Advice over a t-shirt. Sure the have real problems to deal with.

Thats a latent defect, which may be covered by consumer rights but its not covered by chargeback. Visa/Mastercard dont want to be judging on if its a latent defect or if the OP has washed in too high a temperature etc so it only covers if the goods turned up wrong not if they broke shortly after

The OP said they bought the t shirt from a shop in person.
Would this way of buying hamper the OP's chances of a refund?

My assumption (and perhaps the OP can confirm) is that they bought the shirt from the merchandise stand at a venue during the tour. The stand was run by the tour merch company and so their claim will be against that company.
If they bought it under different circumstances (from a retail outlet, or from a bloke with a van hanging around after the gig) then different advice might apply.

That is a developed fault.
As it fitted on purchase.
