Amazon Renewed Rip-Off

You have to give Amazon a chance to investigate what is going on, before they will refund. If they refund people & then the phones turn up. Imagine the fun Amazon will have getting people to repay?
Maybe not what you want to here, but £300 will get you a good mid range new Android phone. Or visit one of the many High Street phone stores selling 2nd hand Apple phones & walk out with it in your hand.

I see on Amazon there is now this reply posted 19th Aug below a lot of the negative comments:
The fulfilment issues associated with this order were not due to the seller
Things that are different: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid1 -
It is possible the problem Is the courier has not collected them.
A tracking number is allocated when items go to the sellers dispatch warehouse to await collection by the courier.

This issue is occurring a lot with Parcelforce/Royal mail
Ebay seller issues tracking number
RM do not enter it into their system sometimes for a week
Parcelforce have recently claimed that they no one was in when the neither the Ring doorbell nor the guard hound could evidence this
RM agency staff recently delivered a parcel to same number and road but a different postcode
I can therefore believe that couriers are playing the fool owing to their "race to the bottom" on pricing

Thanks for your suggestion. If I had a spare £300 to buy myself a new mid range phone I would do. Unfortunately Amazon have my money and I'm unlikely to get it back before 10th September-ish nor will I get the phone I ordered. As I don't have the spare cash I will have to manage with my current, badly damaged and overheating 6 year old phone. Hopefully it wont catch fire.
I suppose I could take out some kind of pay-day loan to get the £300 you mention but I prefer to try to live within my means wherever possible.1 -
This was the case yesterday too. It seems to be an automated thing. They have also been removing all the negative reviews (according to comments on Reddit this has been going on for over a week). There were around 150 negative reviews made yesterday alone (all dated 18th August) when I looked yesterday. These have now disappeared but there are 126 negative reviews all made today.
I have spoken to the courier company and unfortunately the tracking details are fake, they are not expecting any such item. The fact that the seller has gone completely missing and hasn't replied to any messages suggests that this is nothing more than a scam unfortunately. I notice that one person has left a 5* review so that Amazon wouldn't delete it but mentioned that they were only doing it to make people aware of the scam. Amazon haven't deleted that one.1 -
This wasn't Parcelforce / Royal Mail in this instance (the fake tracking details claimed to be Evri) but thanks for the comment. I agree with you though that it's incredibly frustrating when you get a message from a courier to say that no-one was home when there definitely was.

Dodgy seller and Amazon complicit.
Great combination 🤨

Don't take a payday loan for this.
If money is that tight, maybe a more MSE solution would be to buy a more budget Android phone. Plenty of highly capable phones for around £100 or less.

Thanks. I will have to soldier on. I realise that Android phones are perfectly good (though not that much cheaper than Apple for the same spec) but I don't think spending £100 on one to tide me over for a couple of weeks would be a good investment as it would just sit in a draw. It would effectively cost me £50 a week which is a lot to me. I realise I could sell it on but that would be a loss and a hassle.
Having used IOS for 6 years (and it's been a really good that has lasted me well in all fairness) I would just prefer another phone with the same operating system that's all. Prior to the current phone I had an old Nokia (6822) basic phone.
I have followed MSE principles for many years (I am on a £5 a month sim-only deal) and I have saved and got the money to buy the phone I wanted (I wanted something a bit newer as I intend to keep it long term). Something that I think Martin would have approved of.
It's just frustrating that Amazon have taken my money and now I am left out of pocket for a month through no fault of my own. Except perhaps being caught up in a scam. But if Amazon were deleting the negative reviews then there is no way I could have known.1
