Incompetence ? Is it AI or human error
I had been with Octopus for an untroubled 42 months and decided to switch for a cheaper tariff on 14 July
I submitted electric and gas readings to both companies time stamped 14th July
I got my first bill 2nd August having submitted readings on 31st July, to my surprise the gas readings were wrong, My smart gas meter had only been instaledl a few months so the readings M3 were quite low, a few hundred, the readings on the bill were in the thousand M3
My understanding is the 2 energy companies agree an end and a start reading so how can the gas reading be so far out, my octopus final bill was correct.
Over the next 2 weeks I sent photos of the electric and gas meters time stamped 14th July and 31st July but more were wanted of the gas meter, 5th August and 10th August, I even washed it as they wanted a clearer photo.
Eventually they were satisfied and I was informed I will be getting an updated bill, good news ?
Not so, it arrived today, gas meter readings in the thousands totally incorrect
How can a company of EDF size be so incompetent ?
Whats the excuse ?

I always see these mistakes as a way to save money....with a complaint you can normally rectify things fairly quickly and with a goodwill gesture.
Embrace the stupidity and reduce your energy bill.

EDF
Aaah - I see your mistake here.
With regard to the meter readings, is it possible that this is a decimal point error so the reading of, say, 678 is being seen as 678.345?

There is a 3rd party that work out the closing/opening reading.

Unfortunately, it's rare to get anything resolved and just fobbed off these days without an official complaint being raised.

The bill definitely shows your meter reading and not the kWh? My bill usually shows kWh, which is about 11x the meter reading in m3.

Are the gas meter readings on your bill shown as being smart/actual readings, or are they showing as estimates?
Does the meter serial number on your bill match the number on the meter?
It's possible that Octopus didn't complete their updates to the national meter database, and EDF thinks you've still got your old gas meter installed not the new one.

My actual meter readings with time stamped photo supplied to them are
14th July closing for Octopus and opening for EDF 00315, Octopus record 315.4 estimated on my final bill.
The last reading I sent EDF was 10th August, again photo 00319.
The readings on my EDF bill are opening 4952.0000 14th August 4957.4901 estimated
It's as if they are trying to make their reading fit my usage
Thats not all lol
My direct debit goes out 1st of the month £50.93
My total bills to date amount to £33.52
Amazingly I am they say £68.34 in credit

Does the meter serial number on the bill tally with the new meter ?
Was your old meter imperial as the read only shows 4 digits ?
Have they used the correct calculation from those meter reads - do the kWh divided by meter units = 11 or 32 ?
Never associate with idiots on their own level, because, being an intelligent man, you'll try to deal with them on their level - and on their level they'll beat you every time.
Being hated by idiots is the price you pay for not being one of them.
