I have just found out that the change over is only fibre to the cabinet not fibre to the home. In this case, will the old Brightbox server still work in this situation please?

ok, so this is a change from ADSL, to VDSL (FTTC) If you have a voice service on the line, then that will have to move to Digital Voice (VOIP), if not at the same time, in a matter of a few weeks/months, and for that you need a router which has a phone port.
I don't know anything about Brightbox routers (other than they are quite old?) but unless is supports VOIP and has the analogue voice port, then you even if it works with FTTC, it wont be any good when the voice service is migrated.`
