Problems with new (ex-demo) MG4

Could just be a software issue

AI (yesI know!!) says that's a myth.

Hopefully the garage will do a pressure test check on the A/C, some things can be overlooked on the pdi, mine had the tyre pressure overinflated and, according to the Toyota forum, it wasn’t a one off, but, as has been mentioned it could be just a software update that’s required, or maybe a sensor for the aircon..

An MG4 is the only car I've rejected in 43 years of driving and scores of cars.
Underdeveloped, rushed to market and UK dealers being hamstrung with having to email China all the time ( so a day wasted every time an email sent )
Got every penny back after 6 months of stress ( and mostly driving a horrific MG5 loan car )
The issues were numerous and one was potentially lethal.

There are plenty of reports regarding the MG4's AC to do with the central vents.
This one might be relevant (post 12)

I believe the AC can be controlled via an app and it often requires using the app to get the central vents to move.

Thanks for the link - I had already found that thread. My experience was similar to that of CharlieT (post #5 on the thread). The problem wasn't with specific vents, but a general failure to blow cold air out of any of them, and to actually blow hot air. The slight variation in my case was that resetting the infotainment console stopped the system blowing hot air and switched it to blowing ambient temperature air (or perhaps slightly cooler).

From what I gather there's a bug in the software for the heating/air con controls which are operated via the touchscreen or iSmart app.
You could try resetting the touchscreen system by holding down the "Home" button for 20 seconds or so, then use iSmart to set the aircon to auto and temp to low, see if that brings it to life.
Reading various posts it seems the centre vents need setting to open. It doesn't like being set to only screen or feet.
It seems the compressor only kicks in when setting match the glitchy software. I've read charging things like phones can confuse the setting as well.
One of my neighbours bought one of these soon after they were launched. They appear to be riddled with software faults and glitches, but dealers haven't been that helpful. Always waiting for fixes and software patches from China. I seem to think these don't support over the air updates, it requires the dealers to do them which obviously doesn't help matters if the cars don't get returned to them.
As yours has been a ex demo or more likely a dealer registered car that's probably sat idle for nearly a year in a compound, it could have missed some software updates.
There seems to be numerous infotainment software updates for these, fixing things like aggressive lane keep assist to problems with Carplay and Android Auto to the problematic climate control systems. If yours is still on what it came out of the factory with, I would say it's likely to be out of date.
