Change to Fleur telecom - is this OK?

I had an email this morning from TalkTalk (with whom I have had email and broadband for many years) telling me that my contact has been moved from TalkTalk to Fleur Telecom as from 3 days ago. I had no warning or notification that such a change would be taking place. Is this genuine, or am I being taken for a ride? And what difference will this make to my emails or broadband?

Thanks for your help.

Fleur is part of Telecom Acquisitions Group (TAG), and TAG have (in their words) "a recent partnership" with TalkTalk that has seen some customers moved from TalkTalk to TAG's brands.

    So it could be genuine.

I can't comment on whether it will affect your services, sorry.

When you move, you will still be serviced by Openreach. Wouldn't surprise me if you don't notice any difference at all.

Saying that, do you use a TalkTalk email address? or have a home phone line through TalkTalk?

I also had an email this morning telling me my service had been transferred to Fleur from 7 August, but would be managed by Talk Talk until the transfer was fully completed on 1 September. Again, promising no change to service.

I am actually in the process of switching to another provider (not Fleur!) wef 1 September which was confirmed by Talk Talk by both email and letter dated 6 August stating that I need take no further action.

Since 6 August my answerphone seems to have been bombarded by robot messages purporting to be from Talk Talk saying that "an adviser is trying to contact you for further details". Why?

I see the number in my "missed calls" is 0345 172 0088. I believe this is a Talk Talk number (but could be "cloned" of course) but has been looked up on "Who Called Me?" almost 100k times and rated negative.

From media reports Talk Talk seem to be "selling" customers in huge quantities with no prior notification. 120 k have been moved to Rise Fibre recently.

TalkTalk are not in a good financial position (link, link) so transferring low-value customers away will reduce their costs and increase average revenue per customer.

Presumably to another cheap BB deal where you're still going to be 'low value'.

I guess I could have said "low revenue", which would have sounded slightly better 🙂

In this case, other issues than just price but sadly you're right generally. Look on any consumer related forum and you see posts of the "I've been a customer for 20 years and this is how they treat me" variety. Particularly true in the case of cars, it seems.

The irony here, to me, is that I've now received several communications from TT bemoaning my intention to leave, when it appears they had already offloaded me to Fleur! Lack of communication between different parts of TT it seems.

I did wonder if what TT are doing, ie moving customers to another provider and only advising them retrospectively, could be regarded as "slamming"?

If any ISP maintains your price you pay , the terms and conditions you agreed to and the minimum term expiration (if applicable) then they can buy and sell your connection without any regard to you , if they want to change something ‘material’ , the price , the length of contract etc , then that material change should come with an offer to leave penalty free during a limited period of time , if you end up in the clutches if a provider you would prefer not to be with , but nothing apart from the name of the provider changes you are stuck until the minimum term expires or if the change is so unpalatable you are prepared to eat the ETC, and you move provider yourself.

Despite having left, I've now had 3 emails from Fleur. One was a marketing email (actually from "Telephone Acquisitions Group") offering a wide range of services and apparently sent in error, the second apologising for the one sent in error, and the third advising my new customer account number and billing date!

In any case, as part of the PSTN switch off, Openreach removed my copper connection** over a week ago and installed fibre, so no way Fleur could provide me with a service via the old TalkTalk ADSL router after that date anyway!

(**Literally - they drew the copper cable out of the conduit and pulled the fibre through behind it.)

TT had previously advised they would send a bag for the return of the old router (which is now useless anyway). I have emailed Fleur to ask if they will still be doing this, but have had no reply other than an automated acknowledgement. The tip beckons!
