Help With Item Not Received
Comments
-
Feedback says 'Nice item, as described. Postage was slow' .
Can't disagree!

That's not the same thing. Has the buyer confirmed that they have received the item? Is any Royal Mail tracking available?
Even if the feedback says 'great item, fast delivery' it could have been left by mistake.

OP seems not to have proof of delivery and is assuming delivery because of message 'positive feedback received' which IMO does not prove item has been delivered. The actual feedback comments may not be positive or the buyer may have left feedback by mistake.

As I said, here's the feedback. I have proof of postage but not delivery. Understand that the buyer could still escalate but as advised I'm going to do nothing.
I used one of the stamps that i bought years ago as the cost was only £4 so it isn't a big deal - just wanted to see how i should proceed.
Many thanks for all the input.

ah, so no proof of delivery unfortunately, it may well not be an automatic win for you as buyer can claim feedback was left for the wrong item.

It's wait and see territory, unfortunately if the buyer escalates you get very little warning before ebay judges (and there is no record of delivery). A dishonest buyer probably wouldn't leave feedback like that so chances are they'll just do nothing and the case will run down. If they do escalate you'll have very little time to react so it's worth making sure your messages to the buyer are attached to the INR claim by viewing the claim and choosing 'send buyer a message', reference the feedback and state your assumption that everything is now sorted. If ebay do refund the buyer you should be able to remove any strike against your account.

If ebay will not accept feedback left as proof of delivery- and I think it could go either way, then seller won't be able to get the seller strike or any poor feedback removed. However, many buyers are now aware that leaving bad feedback often reflects as badly on buyer as it doe son the seller .

I think op is cool with the feedback as being a fair reflection. My sense is that ebay is so anti untracked postage that, should the buyer escalates, it'll be a slam dunk reversal.

I agree I do think there is an argument that ebay (and other online sites) push their own tracked postage (or in the case of ebay where labels can be bought independently with tracking as well ) as overall it saves them money with un necessary INRs. Proof of delivery (as is the case with standard 2nd class LLs and parcels) is easy to police 'have you online proof of delivery?' yes/no - easy. This means a simple bot programme can deal with INR's rather than pay a human to listen to the 'he said she said' stories.
I suspect the move towards sites insisting on using their postage may well increase for non business sellers. Ebay do at least still allow custom postage in many cases - and for businesses, but sites like Vinted are fully pre provided postage only- and the newer sites springing up are following the Vinted model .

Unfortunately it's a minefield. Proof of delivery is pretty much meaningless, we've allseen a proof of delivery 'posted through letterbix" or 'handed to resident' where it simply isn't true, and what if buyer reports 'item not inside parcel'? The maximum amount I would consider spending has come right down, and I wouldn't like to sell a high value item by postage either.
If anyone messages me 'have you posted it?' I always ask them to raise an INR claim and then use that as my proof of non-delivery. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the item arrives afterwards and the buyer forgets to update me.
