10 year old car but only registered with the DVLA this year?

I came to England with a NI registered car, when I registered it with the DVLA I was asked if I wanted to keep the NI numberplate or the DVLA to issue one of theirs. I decided to keep the NI numberplate and it was added to the DVLA database withe NI nunberplate. Others in similar circumstaces could explain why only some NI numberplates are known to the DVLA.

As I recall, not registering an NI number with the DVLA was a way to guarantee that you'd be stopped and searched for explosives…

I have a LHD camper imported from (I believe) France. Insurance is <£200/yr.

I doubt the import status makes one penny difference to the price.

I also have a LHD camper - bought new in the UK - specifically for long European trips.

It made no difference to the insurance premium.

My LHD Mercedes imported from Spain is going to cost me £158 to insure this year.

My 21 son's RHD 310hp supercharged Audi imported from Japan cost him 13% more to insure against his previous car which had half the power.

I suspect if the car was never sold in the UK then the parts will be harder to get so that might impact premiums due to cost of and time to repair. I also suspect bargain basement insurers won't want to touch imports because that's just not their business model so slightly fewer options.

Could be ex-MOD…

Could have been originally registered in NI or indeed the ROI and brought over, or the IOM etc… (lots of cars on the IOM which have been imported from the UK so vice versa).

Could be some dodgy import from Mongolia…

Or it could have had some murky past…
