  • ☘️ I was trying to be nice there!

  • Thank you 'Sheramber' I will have a look again, but I have already tried the Civil Legal Advice Service (CLA) who were fantastic - they sent me a list of Solicitors, which I am also working through.

Housing Solicitors must be up to their eyeballs in work, is all I can say!

I would strongly suggest you start a thread on Legal Beagles - Home - LegalBeagles Forum

If you are unwilling to share details of what your prospective claim would be about other than about "housing" I'm not sure what board you would need to post on, but you could try Housing, Property and Neighbours LegalBeagles Forum or General Legal Issues - LegalBeagles Forum

    [Edit:

  • 'Okell' - you are Manna from Heaven! I looked for other places to Post my query but (obviously) couldn't find anywhere else.

Thank you for your time & advice - it is much appreciated.

Thank you, but if you've already asked Shelter and CAB and got nowhere, I'm not sure if you are going to find what you want on the interweb

What did you mean by none of the firms you tried had the "capacity" to help you? To me that means they could have helped you but were to busy (ie lacked the "capacity") to take you on as a client.

Or did you actually mean either that none of them thought you had a winnable case or that none of them had expertise in this area?

Without knowing what your issue is it's really difficult to give you any helpful advice. You might be heading towards losing a lot of money without realising it…

(NB - my wife is a retired LA solicitor. I'm surprised you can't find anyone willing to take on your case. that suggests to me it isn't winnable…)

  • Thanks again 'Okell' - by lack of capacity - I mean they already had full case loads and couldn't take on anymore clients.

So - between still making calls from their lists of Housing Solicitors - who mainly have to check with their partners before they can tell you whether they can or not take this case - I am taking their advice - to keep on calling other firms, leaving my details and waiting for a return call.

No firm of Solicitors has told me this case is 'unwinnable' - and I - and they - have yet to find out what my actual case would be - as there are many elements and variables to it, so waiting for the 'return calls' can drag on.

  • Oh btw - Shelter and the CAB only give out so much advice on the telephone and much of it is repeated on their websites verbatim - and those whom you speak to on the telephone aren't legally trained and can only point a person 'in the direction of….'

From Shelter I was given the telephone number for the Civil Legal Advice (CLA) who were great - they texted me a list of appropriate local Solicitors.

Suing entities such as councils would be expensive and not to be recommended unless you have a cast iron case. Losing the case and the council being awarded costs will be eye wateringly bank account emptying. You are reluctant to share your reason(s) for wanting to sue, so forum members cannot suggest alternatives to suing.

I wouldn't expect too many return calls saying they could take the case. Before you agree to instruct a law firm, find out what they think the chances of you winning are likely to be.

If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

What do you mean by 'I have also looked into local government ombudsman service, no results'?

From my experience, that's not how ombudsman works.

If they've knocked you back, I'd think seriously about going any further.

  • Thanks for all your great replies.

No One has knocked either myself - nor this case back.

Certain Solicitors are looking at it and deciding if they can take it on, given the workload.

I can't give details of the case, specific or otherwise as I don't speak or use Legalise - and the details are extremely personal and intertwined in several areas - as indeed are many Social Housing matters.

As there are many elements to this case - I have no idea yet if it would be taken as a whole - or split into separate cases/speres. I have no idea how these things work or what happens or when and how.

Just looking for a way to find and contact another Solicitor as I wait, apart from the usual ways we all already know about.

When I say the Ombudsman route did not work for me - I mean just that - in my experience - it did not work for me.

And - let's be honest here - if I had negative thoughts about this - 'Right' would still be 'Right' and 'Wrong' would still be 'Wrong' - and I still would not wake up and suddenly be a Housing Solicitor in the morning.
