This w/e I am "debanked" (now resolved after a 90 hours' wait and many calls. Complaint underway)

The complaint is underway.
This is actually quite funny... I am actually on holiday now and a towards the end of last week I got an email saying that the complain is open, etc. on Saturday I got a phone call from the bank which I ignored (I was relaxing on the beach) and shortly after an email saying that my complaint, after a thorough investigation of the call, had not been upheld.
This morning I sent "Laura" a lengthy email explaining why I was unhappy with the service. Let's see what she says now.
The speed at which they closed the complaint was impressive! One phone call and that's you done.

On the bright side, if that's their final response then you have a fast-track to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

Exactly what I thought!

Today I was in a long queue at the bakery I mentioned earlier. Everyone in front of me in the queue paid by phone except one who paid by card. Not a single one checked the amount, they couldn't have, it was a hand held terminal (like you get in restaurants) with the front end facing the customer and the screen angled towards the member of staff behind the high counter. So no chance at all of being able to see the screen unless you're 7 foot tall or ask them to show you.
I paid in cash.

After paying they should have received an alert to their phone telling them how much they'd spent and where. So whilst it isn't great they didn't know the amount beforehand they will have known soon after paying,

Knowing the amount only after you have authorised the payment is not good.

I get pretty much instant notifications from my Starling account. Not so much if I use my MBNA card, and no notifications whatsoever if there's no WiFi or mobile data connection present.

Of course but my point is that they will know the amount because there will be an alert on their phone. If there’s an obvious error they’ll soon know.

That could be what those people were thinking, but the example of this thread shows the consequences can be much more severe than simply going back to sort it with the retailer.

I was very proud of myself for remembering to ask to see the figures before using my c/c in the bakers at the weekend!!
