While Martin recommends spacing out credit applications, there is an argument in favour of applying for two cards at once. If, for instance, you make 2 applications the same day, each lender sees only their competitor's credit checks. If you submit those same applications at intervals, providers not only see the credit checks, but also your available credit increasing with each successful application. So your credit rating could look temporarily worse after the second application, than if you had applied for them together.
The drawbacks with this strategy are that, assuming you're successful, you'll have to fork out two BT fees in the same month. Also your 0% promotions are likely to expire more or less together, so I would keep this in mind when making your selectionPeople who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
Sorry, I worded that badly. UK credit card providers can only accept balance transfers from UK card accounts. I'm no expert, but my understanding is that the Channel Islands are part of the British Isles, but not the United Kingdom.
When it comes to balance transfers, I suspect it's the currency that's the limiting factor. Whilst yours is linked to ours, it is separate, so I doubt whether the 0% deals mentioned on this site would apply. Perhaps, someone will be along soon, who knows more about this,
than I do.
We don't have a seperate currency out here
All of our banking is in sterling in UK bank accounts, the MBNA card is a uk based card
Thanks anyway I appreciate you trying to help, I will have a search and see:)Sept 2008 - £60287.17 in debt :eek:0 -

I confess I'm puzzled. Which Channel Island are you on? Please keep us posted.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
hello,
do I need to contact Barclaycard to transfer my balance to HSBC credit card, or does this happen when I talk to HSBC?
thanks for your replies0 -
Hi
In Feb I did a BT of part of the money owed on my HSBC visa, to Goldfish, and have a long (36mth) low deal which I am paying off slowly.
That still leaves £6.7K on my HSBC visa card. I intended to leave it a bit, then try to transfer some more. Seven months probably counts as a reasonable gap.:rotfl:
The best card now looks to be Barclaycard OnePulse. My OH banks with Barclays, and has a Barclaycard and a Barclayloan (car). Does anyone know will this make any difference, either to the amount they will offer me, or to the way they treat him in the future?
Many thanks

You request the transfer from HSBC. There is usually a Balance Transfer fee applicable.0 -
Just tried to apply for the HSBC credit card over the phone and have been told my credit rating was negative. Not sure why as even when i check it myself everything is in order.
Can I reapply in person at a bank or will i just get the same answer?
thanks0 -
hello,
on martins blog about the best balance transfer deals he says that the best deal is the Barclaycard OnePulse Credit Card with Balance Transfer on money site - interest free untill 1/12/09 with 2.5% fee,
but on a comparison site i found another one for Barclaycard (Barclaycard Long Term BT & Purchases) that is only a 1.7% fee and is interest free for 9 months balance transfers. Providing that you only need 9 months is there a catch to the really low fee??
would appreciate if someone could shed some light as i am so confused when it comes to all this!!
cheers

Each applicant is scored individually, so your husband's Barclaycard and loan neither helps nor hinders your chances of acceptance
Note: B'card restricts BTs to 90% of your credit limit, maximum £5000.
Have you considered Egg card? 14 months 0% on BTs is currently available to new customers. There's a 3% handling charge

Unfortunately, yes. You're scored the same way, whichever route you use.
