Due to the nature of my course, I am unable to get a student loan. I instead get a bursary of £520 a month. I roughly pay out £320 a month on rent and bills (not including credit card). I always pay off more than my minimum payment, but can't afford to pay the whole balance off at once. I was wondering if there was a better card for me to transfer my balance
TBH, being a student means you aren't really in a position to get the best deals on credit cards. Lenders launch these interest-free BT promotions, which are sometimes heavily advertised, to draw in new customers. Often they are flooded with applications and can afford to cherry-pick applicants. They are all going to see your low annual income in
the same light.
Wouldn't you be better off with a student overdraft? Most are “interest free” for the period of your studies.

Hello All,
could people help me out on this.
just wondering what people thought of the HSBC credit card. I want to transfer my balance to that from Barclaycard. Not sure I understand, but can I pay off my debt within a year and not receive any interest?
thanks0 -
AFAIK, UK credit card providers can only accept balance transfers in £pounds sterling from other British lenders.
We are classed as part of the uk and our money is pounds sterling too;)
We have got an MBNA card and want to transfer the balance but I know from previous experience that some lenders don't cover the channel islands for some bizarre reasonSept 2008 - £60287.17 in debt :eek:0 -

The current HSBC deal offers 0% for 13 months on balances transferred within 30 days of opening your account. A 2.5% balance transfer fee applies, but there are no other charges, provided that you keep within the Ts&Cs.
Online services not as good as Barclaycard, IMO, but adequate. Telephone services are, like B'card, pretty dire.

i have £4985 with MBNA & £5567 with RBS - i think i can manage to pay off £600 a month so should be able to clear then in about 18 months - what 0% cards do you think i should apply for? Sorry, I worded that badly. UK credit card providers can only accept balance transfers from UK card accounts. I'm no expert, but my understanding is that the Channel Islands are part of the British Isles, but not the United Kingdom.
When it comes to balance transfers, I suspect it's the currency that's the limiting factor. Whilst yours is linked to ours, it is separate, so I doubt whether the 0% deals mentioned on this site would apply. Perhaps, someone will be along soon, who knows more about this,
than I do.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -

Congratulations on your success with Barclaycard.

The second 0% deal that's best depends, to some extent, on which cards - besides MBNA and RBS - you have at the mo.
To maximise the 0% period on BTs, 14 months is currently available to new customers from Egg card. There's a 3% handling charge.
