What has really pee'd me off is that I think Tesco have given me such a rubbish credit limit cos of an error of my Experian report. It took me 3 weeks to get the erroneous flag lifted from the report. I gave Tesco the proof that it was an error by an old mortgage lender and they immediately approved the card, but £500. What is the use of that?
None of us knows the credit limit we will be given when selecting a new credit card. If the worst happens, Martin's advice is to transfer what you can. Don't leave an offer unused out of exasperation. It's already on your credit file, so you may as well use it (Please see Martin's *Credit Card Limit: didn't get what you wanted?* article);)People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
Upsey_Disey wrote: »Any idea which card is likely to offer the higher limit for a 0% balance transfer? I was thinking of either Barclaycard or maybe Capital One. My current card is Virgin Amex.
Barclaycard and Cap One both operate a rate-for-risk policy. This means they reserve the right to issue the credit card they deem most suitable from their range. In the worst cases you can be sent a totally different & unsuitable card, leaving you with a wasted search on your credit file (Please see #872 above). Judging from posts to this board, this happens frequently, so it's important to consider first whether you’ve a realistic chance of being accepted.
To maximise the 0% period on BTs,15 months is currently available to new customers from Halifax. There's a 3% handling charge

These enquiries are not seen by other lenders.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
Thanks for the replies - its good to know the unrecordeds don't show.
I think I'll steer clear of Capital One and have a look at the Halifax card. I did also get a mailshot for the Abbey Zero card as my mortgage is with them (albeit still in my name before I was married) but that is only 6 months worth of interest free and I need to go for a longer term.0 -
Well I couldn't decide between Egg or Halifax so flipped a coin
Egg won !
Applied on line. Didn't get instant decision but they emailed within an hour to say approved and asked me to log on to accept the terms etc
Credit limit of £13K % till October 09
So I think all in all I will not take up the Tesco card, use the Egg to clear the Virgin and then close that as well. That will still leave me my long term Visa card that is linked to my current account plus the Egg one.
Thanks for all the advice
