Since this I've had a holiday and a new laptop to purchase which I bought on my other cards then transferred over to the Virgin one - don't want to spend on my Virgin one, but this now leads me with having more money on my Virgin card then I had originally planned, so when April 2009 comes around, I am thinking of getting a new card and transferring the balance across.
Obviously next year there may be different offers, but can anyone recommend a good card with about 12 months interest-free on balance transfers.
I only earn about 12k a year so I'm assuming Capital One would be out of the question. Any other ideas?
Can you meet the criteria listed on the C1 website (e.g. have a credit card with credit limit of at least £5000, held a card for 5 years etc.). If not, I would leave well alone. That's possibly one for the future.
Currently, the NatWest Classic card offers 0% on BTs for 13 months from a/c opening to new customers earning at least £10,000 pa.

Whether this deal will still be on offer in 7 months time of course, is anyone's guess.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
I have 2 CCs Barclays Platinum for £500 approx and the other a Capital One for £3000, they are both at 0% and both run out in November. Unfortunately Ive just been made redundant and so probably wont be able to have the balances transferred to new cards unless I get a job by then. Should my partner take them over on 1 or 2 new cards or have you any more suggestions or is there a way of transferring the balances between the 2 cards to keep the 0%. If I were you, I'd concentrate on finding a new job for the time being.
If you're still job hunting in a couple of months or so, you can certainly switch your credit card balances to partners, friends or Dave down the pub.
Note: it normally takes a minimum of 14 days to process a credit card application and balance transfer request. IME, there's little you can do to chase up applications & requests so, for peace of mind, it's sensible to allow at least 5 weeksPeople who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
I am looking to transfer from my HSBC card which is coming to the end of its 0% deal. I applied for a Barclaycard Platinum card, with a low APR - 6.9% I think - but then I found out they will not allow me to transfer the full £3000 to it. I'll only be allowed about £1000. I am not sure how to pick a card that will allow me to transfer the full amount.
The HSBC card came with a limit of £4000, and it was advertised at that. Have cards stopped doing this because of the credit crunch? Is it possible to ascertain without having to go through application process? There's a Barclaycard Graduate card, that says you can transfer up to £4000, I think, but someone at their call centre said I'd not be allowed any more on that than I've been offered on the platinum card.
I'd appreciate any advice.0 -

None of us knows the credit limit we will be given when selecting a new credit card. If the worst happens, Martin's advice is to transfer what you can. Don't leave an offer unused out of exasperation. It's already on your credit file, so you may as well use it (Please see Martin's *Credit Card Limit: didn't get what you wanted?* article);)People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
Okay - but the HSBC card came with an advertised £4000 limit when I got it, so I thought I might be able to find an offer like this again. I don't think there's anything wrong worse about my credit rating than when I got the HSBC card, so I thought it might be the banks being more cautious about lending.
I'll look for the article. Do I use the Search facility to find it? (I'm a newbie at this site.)0 -

Credit cards are not normally advertised with a specified credit limit. Occasionally a guaranteed minimum is laid down, but this is not common. Here's a link to the article:

Why not transfer cash from your Egg card to your current account and write your son a cheque?People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
Does anyone (Moggles, maybe?) know the difference between the MBNA cards.
I got a mailshot through the post from them offering a Platinum Plus Visa with 0% until September 2009 for a 3% fee. Can apply at www.thembnasmartmove.co.uk/august.
Thought I'd give it a go.
I'm just getting in to cash back websites and so looked it up in there. Nothing on Topcashback, but Quidco has two entries for MBNA - MBNA Rewards and MBNA Platinum. Both offer £8.50 cashback and 0% until September 2009 with a 2.9% fee.
Anyone know the difference? Presumably I won't get any "Rewards" if all I use the card for is a 0% balance transfer. Am I likely to get a bigger credit limit with the "Platinum Plus"? Or, conversely, is the criteria likely to be harsher so I am less likely to succeed in the application?
Does the fact that I've got a mailshot stand me in any better position?
Thanks, Jim.0
