i dont use cc too often but i have a balance of approx £750 on my halifax cc. I am due to go on hols to spain in the next few weeks and will be using my cc there. I reall just need to know whcih would be the best cc for me or would i be better with 2 - one to transfer my balance to and the other to use for spending. Im sorry if there are very basic questions but i would be really grateful for some help. btw i think my credit rating would be v.good as i have never missed payments etc. thanks annie
Nationwide has the best credit card for travelling. It was mentioned again in The Sunday Times a couple of weeks ago. They do not charge for any purchases you make. If you get one make sure the amount put on the card is the currency amount. Last time I went to Spain I paid the hotel bill with the card and they converted the Euro's using their own rate. After complaining to Nationwide I was credited with the difference between the hotel's rate and the Interbank rate. Apart from this one incident I have never had a problem. The currency amount has gone on the card and when it was converted I was really surprised at the difference between the Interbank rate as used by Nationwide and the rates we get when buying Euros.0 -

I hope you get the card. Incidentally, on the Working Lunch programme today (BBC2 12.30pm) they were talking about some card companies putting up their charges when used abroad. HSBC was one, not sure who the rest were but they pointed out that one card company charges £1.50 each time the card is used in a shop so if you were wandering around buying bits and pieces as we have done in the past it could really mount up.0 -
Hi I am new to this site and having just read about the introductory rate of 4.9% p.a for the life of the balance. Does this mean that if i transfer some of my card to this one I only pay 4.9% until the balance is paid of. The notes from the card provider indicate that after the introductory period the rate reverts to 17.9%. I will not be using this card for any purchases. Can someone please explain further in real simple terms. Thanks A0

Yes, provided that you transfer the balance(s) within the first 60 days of account opening and make at least the minimum payment on time each month.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
Just watch that your best buy info is up to date, a card mentioned in the press a couple of weeks ago could have slipped from the top of the tables. To keep an eye on the latest credit card rate go here

That was Halifax and they also charge this for Visa debit cards when used on T'internet as I found out recently . These overseas charges are a disgrace as these transactions are done in a flash and must cost virtually nothing to carry out .!!!!0 -
