Capital One accepts applicants a month or so following closure, but it's advisable to check your credit reports to make certain the account is actually closed down and marked "settled" before you re-apply ;)

Interestingly, a couple of days ago I received a credit card apllication from CITI Financial saying I'd been pre-approved for their card. Their BT is until 01/09/09, at 0%, with a 3% transfer fee. I've decided to go with this company as I may incur rejections from others before I receive an approval.
I know there are other deals with slightly better transfer rates but again I don't want rejection notes on my credit record.
    Thanks for your help Moggles.

I've done the rounds of the 0% cards and decided to go for the life of balance card. Martins latest newsletter recommends MBNA at 5.9% but I have just finished applying (and been accepted) and it's actually 4.9% with 2% transfer fee. Can't see this lasting long in the current climate so get it while you can if this is the product for you.

    The FAQ section will explain...

    http://new.egg.com/visitor/0,2388,3_11084--View_1765-bID_ECBalTraFAQ-dva_1,00.html#whatbalancescanitransfer?

It doesn't have to be an overdraft, or 'real' debt. See condition 9.3 (2nd bullet) of the small print...

i dont use cc too often but i have a balance of approx £750 on my halifax cc. I am due to go on hols to spain in the next few weeks and will be using my cc there. I reall just need to know whcih would be the best cc for me or would i be better with 2 - one to transfer my balance to and the other to use for spending. Im sorry if there are very basic questions but i would be really grateful for some help. btw i think my credit rating would be v.good as i have never missed payments etc. thanks annie

'Depends what you mean by "the next few weeks" It normally takes a minimum of 21 days to process a credit card application and balance transfer request. IME, there's little you can do to chase up applications & requests so, for peace of mind, it's best to allow at least 5 weeks.

If you decide to apply for a 0% BT card, Egg, Mint and Virgin are known to deal with online applications faster than some ;)

Thanks I am due to leave on Aug 2nd - so i may be able to sort it out by then if i get on my bike.
Can i ask - when i read the sticky Martin said NEVER to use a BT card for purchases - is this only when the BT card is not accompained by a 0% on pruchases offer ?

    Not Quite

Only exception to the mixing Balance Transfers and Purchases rule is when the BT card is accompanied by a 0% purchases offer for an identical duration to the Balance Transfer promotion.
