    Hi,
I have a debt on a Barclay card. some of it is a 0% balance transfer which is due to end in August 2013, it also has a balance from purchases. When should I call them to ask about the low interest for life? Should I do Now or wait till it's closer to August? Thanks :)

I would be surprised if they transfer a debt already with them onto a lower rate. Why only get 6.9% when they can get whatever your APR is?

No harm in asking (now, as you have a purchase balance) but I'd say it's highly likely that you will need a new 0% card.

  • Hi,

I've been living abroad for about a year and have 2 UK credit cards where I'm making the minimum payment each month with a UK bank account. I've looked on a credit card compare website to see if there are any 0% balance transfer credit cards that will accept someone in my situation but haven't found any. The barriers I seem to be facing are i) home owner, ii) UK income of x amount (I am earning abroad and transfer every other month to my UK account) and above all iii) UK resident.

Do you know if there are any cards that will offer a 0% balance transfer to someone who is not currently residing in the UK or without a UK income? I do have an address of a relative that I use as my UK residential address for mail etc.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

    Thanks,

M&S card ~ £1850.00 - 15 months at 0% ending in September 2013. Originally approved for £2000.00 limit. The card holds my only real debt in this country and had to be used for emergencies, hence the balance. Looking to transfer but not sure about which is best for me - another 0% for much longer or low APR for life. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

come on guys there isn't a magic wand, you have to work at it to get the best rates and sort your finances.
ie at the moment i'm paying about £30 a month on £11k, and have brought it down from 27k with interest rates up at 30% two and a half years ago, but I have to watch it all the time in case I slip up and get screwed again.
Best advice is you need a LBM!!!

How did you start tackling that £27k?

Light Bulb Moment. The moment you realise you have to sort your debts out.
I got every piece of information I could, statements, and added it all up. Worked out the interest rates I was paying and what reductions minimum payments were making. It's an eye-opener. I wrote to the credit card people and asked what interest rates they were charging. I got a piece of paper and listed each bank I owed money to and as each statement came in I updated the total, with a + or a -. Even a -£1 made me feel better. The 29.5% and 27% was my target.
I still use that piece of paper and I'll keep it when I pay them off.
    It's just 4 columns;
    HBOS BCard Virg Total Difference
    d £xxx d£xxx d£xxx £xxxx -/+£xxx
d is the date of the month of each statement.
And that's about it. Once you attack it, you have to fight till it's gone I suppose. It's a buzz as you watch the total start to fall.

It always amazes me that people borrow money without keeping track of that sort of thing anyway to be honest.
