    Hi there,

I'm new to this forum and am currently facing a tricky situation. I had applied online for the Barclaycard balance transfer -0% for 26 months , 3.5% fee , 18.9% rep APR and I have been sent a different card with 0%-12 months, low credit limit and 29.9% APR which is for poor credit scores based on my credit report.

When I queried it with Equifax, it seems to me that my score is slightly low as my Electoral information was not updated (although we have been sent a confirmation from the local county 4 months back) by the credit reference agencies, this is the likely reason for sending me a different card.

When I called barclaycard customer service, they were very unhelpful and suggested that I cancel my current application and reapply once my credit file is updated as they cannot credit check on an application twice.

I fail to understand how this is my fault as the credit reference agency does not hold my information and this is affecting me getting a financial product.

Please could you advise as I am unable to decide whether I should continue with this application as it has a footprint on my credit file or apply for a different card with a better deal?:(

Thanks for your time and help,
    rsnk

rsnk,I don't think many people get the 26 months or the 23 months they advertise, be interesting to see if anyone actually does get the full term. I applied for 23 months and got 13 with a low balance and high apr too. Be careful and play their game, they are devious people and want you to default!

You'll often get a less favourable and APR, a lower limit or a shorter 0% period if you are deemed too risky for the best offering. This is standard practice and they are under no obligation to offer you anything at all.

You should have spent £4 getting your statutory credit reports before applying and then checked this site as well for advice. If you had done this you'd know not being on the electoral roll has an adverse affect, as does moving house recently.

Wait until all 3 CRAs have your current address matching the electoral roll and then re-apply - check with your council when they will publish the updated register.

This may not be the only problem on your credit file however. You need to have an excellent credit rating to get the best BT deals

They have to offer a certain percentage of customers the full term by law - not sure on the exact details
  • Hi there, please help!

I run a small business and dont really pay myself anything to show as a income as I've been living off the business account, yes i know not good for credit. I however have a good credit rating showing on experian and equifax due to starting off on high interest cards - something i now want to get rid of.

I have three cards and would like to move debt onto one a single card with lower interest.

capital one with limit of £2100 and a balance of £0 and card is 30.34% apr

barclaycard with limit of £2760 and balance of £2665.16 card is 29.9%apr

virgin with a limit of £7100 and a balance of £6762 not sure of the rate but paying about £88 interest a month

Whats my best option for my situation when applying for a new card. I dont just want to be rejected without putting some research into it.

    Any help greatly appreciated!

main thing is to attack those cards, and destroy the capital one and close that account. every spare penny has to go to them. I'd check your accounts online with barclaycard and virgin first to see if they'll offer you a 0% bt. Then I think it's a case of applying to the other providers. looks like 18-20% on virgin.
