  • I just used the money supermarket tool for finding who is likely to offer me a card for a balance tranfer as it only does a soft search and then recommends suitable cards.
I entered all the data ie I wanted to transfer £7k and it came back with a PRE APPROVAL for a Bank of Scotland card
I applied for it and was granted a card with £500 limit.
What a waste of a credit search

  • hi, this is my first ever forum post, so please be kind...

My partner and i have been together for some time and our relationship is strong, we have plans for a long future together. Theres just one little problem...

He has some outstanding debts totalling near £6000, due to missing repayments and the like this debt has become quite toxic and the minimum repayments alone are beyond his ability to meet them now.
For example, he owes Barkclaycard just over £4000 but the min repayments are over £500 a month something like 20% interest. Due to His poor credit score he is unable to take out another credit card and transfer the balance.

I would like to help, i have a safe income and well within my means to meet reasonable credit card repayments.

    Is this a good idea?
Do i need to adopt this debit? Can this later be returned to my partner?
What would be the best method, which credit card and deal should i take on?
Also I have the cash to pay off this debit in savings, should i transfer the cash over first? His credit card debit collects interest daily and i am worried that not put to and end soon will land us both in a lot of trouble.

    Many thanks!
  • I have £1500 to pay off a catalogue and I currently pay £100 a month back which i can afford to do (but interest is stupid), but I want to get a 0% credit card and pay off the Catalogue and close it down, then pay the card off, as I wont get charged any interest?
Does anyone know if it is classed as a balance transfer or a purchase to pay off a catlogue with a credit card?
I want to makesure I apply for the correct credit card, and finaly get rid of this debt

Hi, my partner has decided to take advantage of the 22month 0% deal with Barclaycard to transfer a balance. The advertised fee is 2.9% but when he goes to make the application, the fee is shown as 3.2%. We can't find any 'small' print explaining this - can anyone explain?

Yes I've applied for this one. Apparently the money is refunded to you. It is explained on the main site here. Its refunded into your bank account. You have to provide your email address in the application but please read Martin's information.

  • Currently I have two credit cards each with approx £2.5k of debt. What I would like to do is to get the £5k of debt onto one card with a zero percent interest period so I can pay it off over 12 months. I have budgeted £500 per month as I have now started my new job :o)

Would the best way be to apply for another 3rd credit card and then transfer the balances over? or is it worth talking to my existing credit card companies (Halifax and Barclays) to see if they are prepared to lower the rate on one of my existing cards and also accept the balance off my other existing card?

Any advice or experiences i would be really greatful

    Regards Will
