My partner has a balance of £3270 on her credit card (natwest) and is paying £90 a month by DD. Out of the £90 nearly £50 is interest!
I've been looking at BT's but there is problem with the fact that she is a housewife and therefore not in employment with an income of £800pm (tax credits etc).
A little advise would be much appreciated,
We are at the start of trying to be Debt free asap.

    Many thanks

    Hi all,
Does anynbody know what the credit limit is on the MBNA Platinum card?

It will be whatever mbna think is appropriate given your income, payment history, other borrowings and other available credit. In other words it's impossible to say.
I have had mbna cards with limits of over £10k each in the past (I used to have 3 mbna cards totalling £23k), but they are much much more cautious now.

I see barclaycard are offering a 20 month interest free period on balance transfers, as I understand they started out at 12, then 16 and now 20 months. So my question is, do we think that after the end of the offer period, they will take the plunge and offer a full 24 month period..?

I have used dozens of 0% offers over the years and I have never been offered an extension past the end date of the original offer.
Why would they do that? They are in business to make money and they'll never make money on a balance transfer earning them 0%.

  • Hi there, I am hoping someone can offer the best way to sort my finances.

I have a student overdraft with halifax which I am now having to pay interest on £2750. Also I have a barclaycard of £500. I ideally want to move both these balances to a new 0% BT credit card with a lowest transfer fee as possible. Though I can only afford to pay £50-75 off a month, I will card tart so the length of the 0% doesn't matter. I won't be spending on this card. I would then like to close my Halifax account as I have opened a new account with Co-op for spending etc.

Any advise or best cards appreciated!!

    Thanks

Hi, I have had a Lloyds TBS Trustcard credit card with an outstanding balance of around £3000 and an annual interest rate of 21.4% and would like to transfer this as cheaply and efficiently as possible. The average monthly spend is around £100. I have spent days reading through the various online guides on the subject of interest rates, balance transfers (including this site) etc but still cannot make sense of what might be the best deal for me. I have a paypal account linked to the card, along with a monthly broadband fee for internet access. What complicates this further is that I am self employed, and am on low earnings (frequently below my personal tax allowance). This seems to mean that I am not eligible to apply for many of the existing card deals because I don't earn enough annually. I also have a saving account with Nationwide, along with one of their credit cards - this has no outstanding balance and I recently asked if Nationwide would transfer the Lloyds balance to their then-0% offer on a different card to mine but they said because I already had a Nationwide card account, that I couldn't apply for the 0% offer on another card with them. I have always steered clear of Barclays because their banking has always seemed very expensive, and I most likely wouldn't qualify for their 20 month 0% deal. So what I am looking for is a card which offers a 0% balance transfer for a minimum of say, 9 months or more, with a low interest rate for purchases and which does not prejudice against the self employed on low earnings. Hoping someone can help -I am completely lost with all of this credit card business!

  • Hi first post here but only because of a call I just had with Lloyds which left me thinking "Where is the catch?"

During a bit of phone banking Lloyds offered me a credit card deal, like they always do, but this time the deal seemed so good I can't believe there isn't a catch and I can't see anything about this deal on here so am asking if anyone else knows of it or has more details.

Transfer a balance of £1500 or more to Lloyds, with a 3% transfer fee and they will half the debt on the card. I was told verbally my credit rating looked good enough to obtain a 0% introductory rate before 19% applied later on (I assume 6-12 months but forgot to ask).

This was bought up a few days ago, they don't half the debt on the card, they half the balance transfer fee.

Hi, Marks and Spencers & More card have written to me to say they are increasing my interest rate from end of May. I have the option of letting them know I don't wish this to happen, in which case I can carry on paying the extortionate current interest rate of 24% but they will not allow me to use the card and will close the a/c once the balance is paid. I have about £4k on this card and am desperate to balance transfer but no application I make is successful. Mr credit rating is 'good' with Experian, so I don't know why I can't do this. Ideally I want to swap it to a low lifetime balance card, but I don't want to keep applying and getting turned down. Any tips or ideas? I have about £10k debt altogether and don't miss payments, I'm paying over the minimum payment on all. Desperation setting in.
