  • Hi

I had the same problem over the phone (I wanted to transfer one of my wife's debts to my card), but fortunately I had been sent a form in the post - it was reminding me that I only had a few weeks left to make a transfer. I filled that out and the balance was transferred with no questions asked. If they did not send you a form with the card, you may be able to do this online (for which you will no doubt have to register the card).

    Good luck.

My intention was to transfer the balance to my Santander card, and let him take advantage of my 0% 0 fee balance transfer facility.

When I called Santander to make the transfer, I got told that the card I am transferring FROM must be in my name. They will not transfer a balance from my sons card.

My Virgin Card does not have this same restriction but they charge 3%.

Is the Santander Advisor correct? or have they made a mistake? Anyone transfered a balance from a family members credit card to a Santander card?[/QUOTE]
  • Hi Shepstone - I would apply sooner rather than later as, even with phone applications, Santander can be painfully slow (plus, as you point out, they might pull the deal).

  • Sparkylife - if you can, change your bank account to Santander. They will give you £100 and you can also apply for their credit card which allows fee-free balance transfers at 0%.
  • Possibly not my business, but what you suggest seems to be increasing your debt. I would close the Lloyds card and cut it up. If you need more credit, you could then apply for a 0% purchase card, but I would urge caution.

    Need some advice.

I currently have £6400 on a barclaycard and pay around £50 in interest each month. I've never missed any payments but only manage to pay off around £100 a month.
My new job in September will pay £22k and I aim to pay £200-£300 off a month, and want to pay the whole lot off within 2 years.
    My questions are:
    • Should I do a bt?
    • Which card should I get? (the Virgin card looks good)
    • Can I get a card based on what I'll earn come September rather than what I earn now? (currently working p/t)
    Thanks.

I applied for a Natwest Platinum that was advertsied on the front page of MSE as 'lowest for years' 0% for 16 months. The link opened up a page with just one button, 'apply now'. I filled out my details and the balance transfers I wanted moving.

I was accepted and was sent a list of the transfers that had occured, in between time I had put a holiday on my Virgin card so thought I might as well transfer this too at the same 0%. Upon ringing Natwest to do this I find that the card I have been sent (Platinum as advertised) is not at 0% but at 15%. So I have transferred lower rate balances onto a higher rate for no apparent reason.

Customer services didnt know anything about the deal till I pointed it out to them on the Natwest website. They don't understand what has happened and have asked me to write a letter to new accounts so they can investigate if I have pressed a 'wrong button'.

Martins link took you to the correct page and only had 1 button to press.

I recommend anyone else who has taken this offer to ring and CHECK if they are on the 0% for 16 months before they start transferring all their balances. I have sent them screen shots of the offer and how I went about it but looks like they arent taking the blame for a website glitch that is sending people the wrong card and ignoring this promotion.

Please let me know if anyone has had same happen to them so I have some ammunition to back me up.
