Also, would it be worth paying bills with a 0% card so that I have more spare cash to put towards the Lloyds card? I don't really spend a lot at the moment due to being extremely skint (am on maternity leave but have decided not to return to work when it's finished).

I don't seem to be getting anywhere. i have two credit cards, seem to end up transfering the balance from one card to another, without making a massive impact on the chunk of it. I'm paying about 150 off a month but unless i pay more i don't think its going to help, but then i go overdrwan on a day to day basis. Now looking for another good deal. I'll try Halifax, thanks for that suggesstion!

Worth appealing their decision and explaining all of this to them, that you're currently paying £150 to HSBC but paying high interest.

You are looking to transfer the balance to them and continue with your payments of £150 - ask them which of their cards they recommend you take for this, your choice was the 0% card. If they don't feel this is appropriate for you, what would they be willing to offer as an alternative?

Point out to them your impeccable payment history (if you have one).

Phoned them up and they said it was because i'm nearing my credit limit for my HSBC card..exactly the reason why i wanted the 0% card! Asked for alternatives and she said she couldn't really offer one and that the best idea would be to search the internet. :wall:

Yes, put as much spending on the card as you can - remembering that it has to be repaid at some time ;)

I'd have put it in writing to them. Not sure I'd have trusted someone at a call centre to be able to give it the attention it deserves.

If that door is closed, then all you can do is pay as much as possible off the card as often as possible to reduce your interest, and make an application every 3 months for another one to BT it to.

"search the internet" - for what? What a moronic answer to give ....

Just had a look at this one - http://www.tescofinance.com/personal/finance/finance/creditcards/clubcc/index.jsp

It's got 0% for 12 months on purchasing and 0% for 6 months on balance transfers. Is there anyway I could use this to my advantage?

ETA: Never mind, got declined anyway :(

Hi, I have a good credit rating, although i have quite a lot of commitments, I am keen to begin to clear my cards debts and to do so I am going to try to transfer balances to lower Interest cards.

    I currently have : M&S £2,200
    Nat West £1,900
    Mint £5,900
    Egg £12,500

I would realy appreciate any members advise on the best card/s
to apply for, as I am sure that my current level of borrowing will reduce my options despite the fact I am not wanting to increase by debt, but reduce it. :)

The Egg one is the potential deal killer for you if that's a balance.

An MBNA backed card (like Virgin Money) would be the standard answer as you don't have one - list of 0% offers here http://www.stoozing.com/0fees.php

  • Please can someone help? I am new to this site & haven't a clue what I am doing so apologies if I have posted in the wrong place!

I am thinking of getting a First Direct Credit Card, to do a Balance Transfer for 15 months. However the terms says Gold Credit Card - Minimum Credit limit £3000 or Normal Credit Card limit £500? What does this mean? I have read elsewhere you get charged if you have a Balance of less than these figures? If this is the case how does it work & do you know what you get charged?

Sorry if this sound a really daft question people but I wanna be sure!
