  • I have had just about every CC there is, I maxed out a 5K card and put the money in an isa, then just transfered the balance for free for years, I think its a bit tighter now though

Today, the Hally launched a new balance transfer deal, which offers 0% on BTs for 15 months. A 3% handling fee applies.

I would rather stick lighted matches between my toes than opt for a Halifax Credit Card :-) A few years ago I took one out, and through my own fault ramped it up to the max, However despite never missing a payment they upped the interest rate from a start point of 15.8% to a massive 27%, with my outstanding balance of 8.5k this would have meant an additional 88 pound per month in interest alone. Suffice to say that this has now been paid off and I have a Barclaycard with a 6.4% (and an outstanding balance of 900 pounds), furthermore Barclaycard ensure that you pay the interest plus a large part of the premium. Halifax are happy just to take the interest to keep you in the debt spiral and do appear to enjoy kicking a man when he is down, but I guess someone has to pay for their crappy advertisements telling you what a great bank they are :rotfl:

Hiya all, I've finally decided to be proactive and look at learing my credit card but I'm looking for some help

I have a card with mbna which has an outstanding balance of £6400. It's the only card I have and is not in use

I'm looking to move this balance over to a 0% card and pay it off in 15 months.

To help this I have recently sold my car and have £4000 to put towards this goal

Sounds straight forward however, I am self employed and the econimic downtown has taken it's toll on my credit history i reckon(not verrified as I have no card to sign up for free accounts). I say this as I have missed several payments on my card and some standing orders on my bank account due to late payments into my account.

I am currently two payments behind on my card wich I can make as I have 4k in cash in my pocket - however i'm just wondering what my next move should be. I have spoken to my card company and they are not going to charge me any late payment fees.

I was looking at moving to a 15 month 0% santander card however, I am wary of getting rejected so looking for some advice first.

Ideally what I want to do is move the balance to a zero rated card and pay 160 a month til it's gone. That's the plan anyways

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

The loyalty card works for me most of the time. I phone up speak to an operator and say I'd like to know my exact balance as I'm transferring to another card, they soon offer a better interest rate to keep your business.
  • I have used www. creditcardsbest .co.uk they provide a card comparison between credit card providers. Very good!

    Not sure where?

The long-running 16 month Virgin Money card has been replaced with a 14 month offering...and the BT fee is, as it's been for a good while now, 2.98%.

The Virgin Atlantic White card does have a 2% BT fee, but that only gets you 6 months 0% on BTs.
