    Unfortunately not.

You cannot transfer balances between cards underwritten by the same bank, in this case MBNA.

You would be trying to pay 'em off with their own money.

MBNA hasn't quite cornered the market ... yet. There are other low-rate BT cards out there. Why not play safe and plump for another lender entirely?

To help you further, we would need to know which card(s) - besides Virgin obviously - you have at the mo or have held recently. Also, whether you've applied for any unsuccessfully?

I hope this is the right area to ask this question, if not could you please direct me to the right part of the forum?
I am looking to do a BT, around £900... My Barclaycard account is excellent, (been with them for about 14 months) never missed a payment etc... I bank with Barclays and have a loan, again, good record with them and I have been with Barclays for about 7 years. Barclays online banking show me with pre-approved offers of loans for £12600, so as you can see things are pretty good with my finances.

My credit history has not always been good, but for at least the last 5 years it has been. Unfortunately hubby is an ex bankrupt, it was about 4 years ago, so I guess this shows on our file badly.

I applied for a Virgin card to do a BT but got turned down, any suggestions which card I should try? I don't want to make lots of applications obviously.

Edit.......... whilst mulling this over on my walk to work, it has occured to me that Virgin is MBNA. I wonder if this makes a difference, I had problems with MBNA in the past and sucesfully managed to clear the debt with MBNA via re-claiming of credit card charges and PPI insurance.

I guess it is not worth me trying any other cards?
    Thank you in advance. x

  • My husband applied for a new card with the intention of doing a balance transfer, when he applied they asked for the number etc.of the card which would be paid off with the balance transfer. He has been accepted for the card but when it arrived and activated he then requested they do the balance transfer they said they could not do it on his old card as the computer had rejected it. So we are now stuck with a card with a balance that we cannot pay off within two months, and cannot transfer this balance to the new card in order that we can pay it off within 6 months as we had planned. Help please. Given they requested the card details on the application can they do this? Card with balance is Saga Platinum/First Trust new card is Asda Reward Card.

I'd try another one, probably Halifax, then leave off any new applications. In theory you can apply every 3 months without affecting your credit score.

Bankrupt OH could easily be the problem

Yes. You apply for the card - any BT details you put on the application are optionally fulfilled (e.g. if the credit limit on your new card isn't high enough to complete the BT then you still get the card).

Saga Platinum is issued by Allied Irish and Asda is issued by Santander so no obvious problem there. Did they say there was a problem with the 16 digit card number when you called them?

  • I currently have £2000 on a virgin c c - 0% rate ending in feb; but somehow I notice I had to pay £11.65 in interest in DEC?? £2300 on Sainsburys cc paying 20.95% and a RBS cc with a balance of zero.
My credit limit on the virgin card is £8700; Sainsburys £5500 and RBS £350.
I am gutted that like a fool I am paying such a lot of interest and wonder if you can suggest what to do? Am I correct that the sainsburys balance cannot be transferred to virgin? Also I'd like to get it all on 0% for as long as poss and set up a sensible dd to pay off asmuch as possible in that time. Many thanks for help.x

    £2000 on a virgin c c - 0% rate ending in feb (CL £8700)
£2300 on Sainsburys cc paying 20.95% (CL £5500)
RBS cc with a balance of zero (CL 350)

You can transfer Virgin to Sainsburys. Virgin is from MBNA. Sainsbury's is from HBOS - full list of issuers and cards at http://www.stoozing.com/cards.htm

List of 0% card here http://www.stoozing.com/0fees.php - I'd look at an Egg Card or maybe a Santander card to shift both your balances onto a 0% basis.
