From my practical experience, this is not strictly true.I got a second halifax card three months after closing my first and my partner got a second barklaycard 3 months after the first one was closed.

It was me understanding that you can reapply for cards but would not qualify for introductory or new customer offers, did you get any offers?

Also, i notice that MBNA supply the majority of cards, does this mean you cannot apply/get more than one or get lower limit? Or that you cannot BT between them?

Halifax is part of the HBOS stable (I have edited my post to make this clear), so your experience doesn't conflict with mine and others who have posted on this board.

Thanks for your feedback about Barclaycard ;)

Thanks again Moggles. I have the following cards:
Abbey MBNA and Santander, A&L formerly, now MBNA, Barclaycard Platinum, Egg. AA, so pretty sure i have no options. Hence why we want to move balances to 0% BT deals in Wife's name who, as i said, only has the Virgin card.
Does she bank with NatWest or the Royal Bank of Scotland?
A 0% for 15 months BT card is available to existing customers at the mo.

(HSBC has a similar deal for current account holders, but customer service is not so good, IME)

If she's not eligible for any of the above, have you considered the Bank of Ireland's
    Post Office
    card?
12 months at 0% is currently available to new customers on balance transfers made in the first 3 mths. There's a 2.98% BT fee.
Also, 5 months at 0% on new BTs requested in the months of your 1st and 2nd
    anniversary ;)

  • from your advice i opened a virgin credit card and transferred £9000+ to three other credit cards. after messing up one of the transfers and then correcting it, they upped my monthly from £25 which I have paid 3 times, to this month it has been adjusted to £250 as they explain that £25 wasn't enough and it is within their rights to do so. This is not 'interest', but a payment off the total. Although I have argued that my arrangement was on the grounds that it would cost me nothing for 16 months, I think that it is fraudulent or at the least trickery to be able to do this, if it appears that they can. Can anybody help?

Former card holders are free to re-apply for another Nationwide credit card, but do not qualify for the 0% introductory rate the second time round.

That said, I know of no other lender whose introductory 0% rates are strictly limited to one per customer.

Yet again, thanks Moggles! We have applied for the BoI card but do not qualify for the others, hence why i wondered if you are limited to one card from the MBNA stable?

MBNA doesn't seem to mind customers holding more than one of its cards, as long as you don't apply for two identical ones. I have held three at once.

Tip: if there were no balance(s) on your existing card(s), this lender will sometimes
switch your credit limit(s) on the unused card(s) to give you a higher limit on the new, active one ;)

That said, if there are balances on your current MBNA card(s), particularly if they're still charged at 0%, you can certainly be turned down or handed a lowish credit limit by MBNA.
... or that you cannot BT between them?
You cannot transfer balances between cards underwritten by the same bank. (You would be trying to pay 'em off with their own money.)

There's a way round this as MBNA would allow you to route funds via your current account. There's a 4% fee for these money transfers though.

Your wife was handed a lowish credit limit by Virgin. If she applies for another MBNA card, the chances are she'll be given another low limit.

MBNA hasn't quite cornered the market ... yet. There are other 0% BT cards out there.

Good luck with the BoI application.

    Very best

Would i be better doing other 2 app's now or waiting on results of other?
