Should I try to apply for this in an Abbey Branch or phone ? ( It's the same number for both credit cards )
If you decide to chance your arm, it's advisable to apply in branch. Online applications are still subject to long delays, apparently
Alternatively, 13 months at 0% is currently available to new customers from Halifax on balance transfers made in the first 90 days. There's a 3% BT fee.
Minimum monthly payment is just 1% of the balance shifted

1. I think the answer to this is "no" but can anyone confirm if applying for your credit reports 2 or 3 times in one year affects your rating?
2. If the answer is no, could somebody point me in the direction of credit card company who may accept a 6k Barclaycard BT from someone who has an average-good credit rating. In otherwords a lender who isn't as stringent as most. I don't mind a slightly higher apr%. I ask this because my rating is not fantastic.
Thanks in advance and apologies if this has been asked a million times before!0 -

You can look at your credit reports as often as you like. This activity is not seen by lenders and has no effect on your credit rating.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -

Which option is best depends, to some extent, on which cards - besides Barclaycard - you have at the mo or have held recently.
To maximise the 0% period, 16 months is currently available to new customers from Virgin. There's a 2.98% BT fee.

Moggles, I've had the Barclaycard for about 4 years and have only once had a late payment. I also applied for and received a Vanquish card about a year ago. I bought something for about £100 and then ripped the card up and pay a little off each month in order to help with my credit rating. I don't have any other credit/store cards.
Aren't Virgin fronted by MBNA? If so, they had a bad experience with me with one of their cards. However, I did satisfy the debt and it was over 6 years ago. But still, I bet they keep records.
So I will give the Halifax option a bash I think. Then again I had bad history with BoS as a kid and that was satisfied as well over 6 years ago too! Fingers crossed!
Thank you.0 -

I doubt whether card providers keep records of all their former customers since the year dot.
It's your payment history with all your creditors over the last 6 years that counts, with particular emphasis on the most recent 12 months.
Let us know how you get on
Very best

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I already have a Halifax card - might consider checking if they'll give me a low rate for balance transfer if I'm turned down by Santander - or might close card so I can re-apply at a later date.librarylottie0
