Well I've never had a problem in getting positive balances refunded by cheque without incurring a charge.
They have usually been in the 100s rather than the 1000s though.
Have done this many times, b4 the days of Egg money card, it was the fastest(if not the only way to access non SBT Bt cash if you had no bal to paydown) upto 25K at a time NO FEES EVER, and Bacs the majority of the time NOT a Q

If you mean, transfer the balance on card one to a new card (let's call this card three) next month,0

Because this would turn it into a mule card and I didn't think cards other than Egg Money had this facility. Maybe the point is they don't officially, but as a one-off they would do it?
Lenders vary in this respect, as with everything else. Where payments/balance transfers result in overpayment some (eg. Citi, HBOS, HSBC) insist on returning the surplus funds to the account from which the money has been sent. If this account happens to be another credit card, you could be hit for two balance transfer fees. Forum users report this every now and again.
Credit cards - other than Egg Money - are not designed to carry a positive balance. Most lenders are relaxed about one-off, small amounts that arise temporarily (due to a refund, for instance), but some card provider's Ts & Cs (eg. Halifax, HSBC) specifically prohibit payments/balance transfers that place the account in credit.
E.g. Halifax
7.6 You must not make payments or transfer funds from another credit or store card to your account, that would leave a credit balance on your account. We may return any funds that exceed the balance owing on your account to the account from which the money has been sent.
So it pays to calculate BTs with care these daysPeople who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
Hi, I have posted this in the credit score thread, but think it should probably be here, if i needs removing from the old thread please let me know, anyway:
I have a barclaycard credit card with a £1300 balance and a barclays flexiloan (reads as a credit/store card on experion) with £635. I would like to transfer these balances onto a reasonable 0% card but am not sure whether i would get excepted.
i missed a couple of payments on a barclaycard football card about a year ago, because i didn't realize i had another card, thought it was the same barclaycard (stupid yes, but it was kind of given to me by an instore barclays saleswomen) The card had a tiny limit (£250) so i paid it in full and canceled it, it now reads as settled.
I also have a default from 2007 from bloody british gas, who miscalculated my monthly payments, read the meter and landed me with a £400 bill at christmas! I ended up paying in full but they still defaulted me, is that fair?
anyway, the weird thing is this: my barclaycard limit was £4700, then this week i got a letter saying 'Credit where credits due' and they upped my limit to £5000!!
So, is this a good sign that i could apply for a 0% card, or does my extra available credit count against me? I f i new i could get another card i'd reduce my limit to £1500, but if i do and it doesn't help, ive lost a potential lifeline!
Any help much appreciated
