Fair enough - working in pest control in itself seems like a good reason for an extra (small) load of washing every day! BTW, do you know if your son is entitled to a tax refund for the cost of the extra laundry?

Don't know if Direct Drive was mentioned here, but it would be at the top of my checklist for a WM.

Also Siemens is a Best Buy recommendation and they offer a 5 year guarantee ( as long as you register the appliance with Siemens).

Siemens IQ500 WG56G2Z4GB Freestanding Washing Machine, 10kg Load, 1600rpm Spin, White

For a more budget model, Hisense rate well for Which.

Extended warranties are often poor value, but maybe they would be worth considering for someone like the OP who is working their machine quite hard? Bosch charge £89 to extend the warranty from 2 to 5 years. This page has details but also mentions that some of their machines have 5 years as standard

Bosch and Siemens are the same company. The latter is promoted as the premium brand, although technically there seems to be not much in it.

Siemens definitely offer a free 5 year warranty as long as you register the appliance with them. It seems that Bosch do the same for their more expensive models. Some retailers do not make this very clear as obviously it reduces the demand for their overpriced extended warranties.

if you have a domestic washer for home use you will need at least a 30 amp supply, yes you can down rate them but that will mean disconnecting one of the elements, large care homes use commercial laundry machines, unless they are only residential , we had a Samsung washer that was noisy on spin from day one, no matter how I tried to level it it always shook, we got rid after five years and have bought a Miele..

I thought 20-30 sounded excessive but I just did a quick count and I probably do around 18-20 washes per week. We're a family of 4. We have a couple of towels each so air dry them, reuse our own and wash them both once a week. We don't often wash things after only one wear, but we don't use many disposable things so that probably adds a few washes. I can see how you'd do a lot more if you were fussy about towels or had mucky kids or jobs.

My tip for choosing a machine would be to think about what would be really helpful for you. People often say how smart machines are pointless or just something more to go wrong, but I genuinely love mine. No more guesstimating when to go down to put the next load in, or forgetting and wasting half the day with an idle machine. A larger drum is brilliant too.

Brand-wise, I've been happy with the current Samsung, but we have a lot of other Samsung stuff in our home (TVs, phones, smart tags and AC) so it fits in well with the existing app. I've found it washes really well and has lots of options I actually want to use, as well as being easy to maintain (it's daft that this is a big plus for me, but it's really easy to drain and the twisty thing to clean the filter is really easy!).

Previously, I had a Hotpoint, which never seemed to rinse particularly well and we had a few issues over the years. If I was going cheap, I'd be interested to try a Beko or Hisense. Never had one before but their dishwashers and fridges have impressed me!

The name on the machine doesn't tell you much. Siemens and Bosch are the same, Beko owns Hotpoint, brands buy in from other makers. You never know who made it despite the name on the front!

Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
