Advise please on tiling in bathroom

The scratched and chipped tiles aren't acceptable. I'm not saying it's a great job, just that I can understand why he might have thought the half tiles at the window jamb would be better done as he has.

I'd stick some white corner bead trim around the window frame as I think it looks awful especially with the black/white contrast.

Best to speak to the tiler directly rather than subject his work to a "trial by internet jury".

The tiler is meant to be coming back to do the kitchen once done I think I will ask him to do the tiles near the window, the scratched tile again for sure and may be the chipped tiles as there straight in front of you when you walk into the room opposite the door.

There are things I can spot with the rest of the bathroom but can live with them I think, I think it’s all down to him rushing, he came just after 9am and was finished before 3pm the same day, all four walls from floor to ceiling, and also the floor; it’s a small bathroom 6 feet x 6 feet (I of course do not mind how long it takes but do care if thee are issues).

as I mentioned I was asking people opinion as I didn’t want to complain if not appropriate was is in two minds, as for “trial by internet jury” you mentioned; a big stretch as I would not name him or his company ever…

Please remember that you are the customer and he is meant to do the job to your satisfaction. It is clearly a rush job that is not of the standard expected.

Whilst the work done here is not of acceptable quality, unless the customer specifies a required quality (or the trader offers such) then the test is whether the work is to a reasonable standard by a competent professional.

The customer can't demand perfection unless they have specified that, and a contract has been formed on that basis.

The grouting is poor. He hasn't taken the time to sponge it off properly and it's very uneven - I wouldn't be happy with that.

It also looks like he's grouted internal corners - these should be siliconed in a matching colour.

It looks like he's not a full time tiler to me.

this was my point of the thread to be honest, but after all the help and advise given :-

1. The grouting used in the internal corners, around the window and the bath.
2. Using cracked and scratched tiles (when there was 2 boxes spare).
3. The messy grouting.
4. The chipped tiles
5. The irregular gaps around the window and other places.

I think it falls below what anyone would expect, now having learned about the internal corners, around the bath, around the window and around the architraves should have been siliconed for movement this is a big problem as it’s all been grouted and a lot of the tiles her are butting / touch these areas with no gap at all.

Silicon in the corners can be done afterwards.

The point rob7475 makes is correct because the grout in the corners always seems to crack. Normal house movement I guess. You would expect a professional tiler to know this and silicone from the start.

Having said that I’ve had a plumber install a bathroom who didn’t do it and I had to do it myself 12 months later.

Thank you for you reply, mapei flexible tile grout  was used and I spoke the Mapei today

I was told by Mapei under no circumstances whatsoever should and of the internal corners, against the architraves, window and bath should there mapei flexible tile grout be used (all of these areas have been grouted) he went on to say if grout has be used and it has it can under no circumstance be siliconed over and the grout will 100 percent have to be removed as the silicone will fail of time.

The technical manager from Mapei, then quoted BS 5385 Part 1 for walls And Part 3 for floors.

He said it a common fault and they have seen this issue time and time again and couldn’t believe it was also grouted around the bath, were the tiles just above the bath have also been grouted.

He said they have had many customers call where silicone has failed many times when it been applied over there grout.
