Advise please on tiling in bathroom

hi all

I had a tiler come and tile a small bathroom today 4 walls from floor to ceiling and also the floor, and some on the finishing I don’t think is great most of the tile are touching the architraves and it’s a bit off in please should I complain he is coming tomorrow at 7:30am to finish.

He was here 6 hours in total today.

Looks okay to me. What colour of grout are you going for?

He should have probably spaced the last few out a touch more so they were closer to the window, but once the grout is in I don't think you'll notice it anyway.

Not sure of the issue at the doorway. There will be a bar across it anyway to join with the other flooring.

Hard to tell when it's part done, but it looks OK to me. If youre not happy, speak to the guy - a decent tradesman will have no problem either adjusting things or advising why you are wrong.

I just did want to say anything if I am being fussy is all, just when I saw some of the gaps and cuts running off some no gaps then the tile above 4mm gap wasn’t sure if this is normally acceptable maybe it’s just me but I would have set out not to leave a very small piece above the window that’s more prone to breaking and not butted th tiles against the architraves with no expanding joint .

Unfortunately you rarely get a tile that is the perfect length for every surface it goes on which is what appears to have happened above the window. I think it will look nice when completed.

Tell him what you want and let him explain why not if there's a reason. If you feel strongly about it, make it clear. Don't argue with him on pay day after the job is finished. Only let him move forward if you both agree.

On the second photo, the tiles abutting the frame jamb will look better when grouted and sealed, as you won't see the joint on the half tile and It'll look like the tiles are from behind the frame to look like brickwork. If he had cut the half tile shorter you would have seen it was a half.

It’s been grouted today, you can still a fair difference in the gaps and some scratches in tiles like the photo and chips on cut tiles.

everyone in this thread seem to think this level of workmanship is normal and if that’s the normal so be it.

I am no tiler but we have had several bathrooms done and I don't think it looks great at all.

The chip on the window bottom would drive me mad and the scratch the looks like a failed cut, seems like he has picked an offcut and slapped it in. At a minimum I would object to that very visible damage

Personally, I would also consider the irregular gaps unacceptable, there appears to an excess of grout to hide those gaps.

Regarding the door jamb why not cut the wood and slide the tile underneath?

As much as the job might require a few more cuts, if someone calls themselves a tiler then they should be doing a better job.
