The channel guide is painfully slow to update on my LG OLED55B9PLA.DEKQLJP . I have updated the software, but no improvement.

When did you buy it? If it's 7 years old (this model was released in 2019) then this may well just be due to its age.

Personally think the world was better several years ago when people (geeky people like me) bought screens that did nothing more than display an image and then bought set top boxes etc for EPG, receiving the signal/stream etc. I've the next model up, the C9, and have never looked at its EPG, listened to its sound etc. I did try some apps when I first got it and instantly went back to my older Firestick/AppleTV as they were so much more reliable.

Smart TV makers are notoriously bad at keeping their apps up to date, I'm almost convinced its a marketing strategy to get people to buy the latest models though personally would suggest people ditch them and use an external device.

Personally wouldnt be surprised if it isnt just because it's 7 years old, they still run WebOS 4.5 as per the day they were launched. The software update just made it mimic the look of WebOS 6 but didnt actually upgrade it to WebOS 6. Thankfully doesnt impact me as I use it as a screen despite it being a smart TV

I have an LG OLED55C14LB from 2021… with all the recent software updates it seems to get slower and slower. Especially after powering it on - it goes directly to live tv reception - but is then very slow to load the EPG or respond to the remote control… after it's been on for 5 minutes or so it seems to be much better. I assume the EPG has to be loaded up when the TV first powers on and it needs to get data from Freeview and Freesat, it seems that gets priority over everything else until it completed.

It wasn't like this when we first bought it and it seems to be getting worse with each software update, it is very irritating.

Most TVs are designed to be left in stand-by mode when note in use rather than being turned off. All the EPG loading/caching then doesn't have to be done at start-up, which is what happens when you power it off at the wall every night. As there are more channels on Freeview and Freesat since 2021 that's more content that needs to be populated.

That being said, even if you do the TV in standby mode you do get the odd undocumented side effect. A previous TV used to lose all the sound on HD channels if I left it in standby for more than three days or so straight (and in use during the day), and any 4K content developed a purple hue. The issues were fixable by factory resetting the TV, although it ultimately packing up altogether sort of solved those issues…

That is my experience. It was lighting fast when I bought it new.

Sorry - we don't turn the power off to the TV… it is normally left on stand-by as other maintenance is suppose to happen (my original wording was confusing.) The TV is supposed to run maintenance to maintain the OLED panel in optimum condition when the TV is in stand-by… Turning the TV on (from stand-by) the next evening still takes a long time to go through whatever it does (I assume updating the EPGs) and as said it now takes 5 or so minutes before it is properly responsive to the remote… I also assume that the TV software is being updated mainly for new versions of LG TV that have faster processors (and to put all the advertising and LG channels in the foreground) and the older TV struggle a little when turned on.

Noticed the same with my LG TV. It was quick to populate the channel guides and get program information but then it
auto updated and got slower and slower, then the updates that only seemed to be about data collection and you find
that your TV is one that can take screen grabs of the content on the screen and that answers why it got slower.

Changes to the privacy that allows them to capture your screen 'but don't worry you cannot be identified' which
makes the data collection rather meaningless if they cannot use that information to target me for advertising.

My next TV will not have a direct internet connection, although I don't need to worry about the channel guides
any more because I no longer watch live TV.

The data will be pseudonymised, ie they cant identify its Mr Forgot M. Name watching it but they can tell each data point is from the same tv and therefore they can identify trends and therefore do targeted marketing even if they dont know who they are marketing to.

There is vast value in pseudonymised data so very far from meaningless

Yes, reading my comment back it was meant to be more sarcastic in the comment it does not collect personal information
it only collects meaningless information. But that meaningless information collected over several devices and all
on the same internet IP has more value than they let on even if it does not know my name.

Getting my name is probably easier than we realise. When we use a service or buy something and they use a
third party to send a questionnaire who knows what snippets changed hands.
