I'm elderly, with conditions (high blood pressure, heart, etc) that have not caused me any problems but I take lots of pills.

I found that Nationwide's PlexPlus bank account includes travel insurance that does not cover medical conditions but can be upgraded to cover them (and you can get a quote for the upgrade before deciding to open a FlexPlus account.

I completed the Nationwide's FlexPlus medical questionnaire, before opening the account, and it declined to quote.

Have you tried Moneyhelper Travel Insurance? 0800 138777

I've no experience of them myself but I was given their number by my packaged bank accounts insurer who declined cover on a couple of my conditions. I'm waiting on a diagnosis, but the wait time to see the consultant is 40 weeks, then 4-5 months for a CT scan.

I decided to take a chance and travel without any other cover than GHIC for those conditions, seeing as we were travelling to Europe and at a push we could cover a medical repatriation.

I posted a link to MoneyHelper in my earlier comment. They weren't any help to me. I tried their suggestions for companies that may cover me, but none of them would.

I understand your frustration, but it's not really true to say it's something you haven’t got. Something was discovered by chance and while it wasn't being looked for it is a real thing.

I didn't say I didn't have the condition. It was probably badly worded, but what I meant was that I feel I'm being penalised and treated as if I've actually had a stroke or heart attack when I haven't. Yet people who have actually had a stroke or heart attack can get insurance.

I am very pedantic and thorough regarding travel insurance almost to the point of having OCD about it.

Yes, of course. As I said, I am very pedantic and thorough regarding travel insurance. I read the policy wording of any policy I am considering before I buy it. I even declared an ingrown toenail once. That was over the phone. The guy said, "Wait a moment", tapped on his computer, then said that it would be covered!

There's one thing I haven't managed to clarify yet and I have read the policy thoroughly. I have a holiday booked for 2 weeks after my annual policy expires. In the event my insurer declines to renew the policy, I can't find out if they would be liable for the cancellation costs. I am loathe to phone them and get 100 questions. They never seem to answer anything as just a general query without all your details.

Was more talking about your OCD ;)

First of all check your policy, some lower quality annual policies won't cover a trip that is due to happen after the current policy is due t expire.

Secondly, no, you wouldnt be able to claim off of your current insurance if you were fit to travel but were unable to renew the current policy.

😅 I fell for that one! Touche.

As I said, I have checked my policy thoroughly and there's no mention of that scenario. I'm sure I've seen a similar situation on here.

I'm going to word this badly, but I think it was said that some of the better insurers would cover travel that was due to happen after the policy end date, if the reason for cancellation happened during the policy term. If the insurer declined to quote, I would be advised 14-21 days before the policy expires, which would mean that the reason happened during the policy term.

some lower quality annual policies won't cover a trip that is due to happen after the current policy is due t expire.

Do you have examples of higher quality policies? I would never entertain any of the budget insurers for any type of insurance.
