Speed limit warning .
In my car I have one of those that beeps when you are over speed limit .
In my town there is a road around 2 miles long through housing scheme then more open road and then back to housing scheme .
Speed limit is 20 mph then 40 mph and then 30 mph .
Council have put up maximum speed signs on left side of road and then some on right hand side .
My car only reads the signs on the left hand side of road .
Also there are vehicle activated speed signs at side of road .
When the road sign says 20 but the vehicle activated sign says 30 and my car says 30 what chance have you got .

so the road sign says 20
the vehicle activated sign says you are doing 30
your car says you are doing 30
Not sure any of that would be a defence or even mitigation

As an alert and fully aware driver taking due consideration of all their surroundings you are responsible for driving in a manner appropriate to the rules of the road and the conditions prevailing at the time of the journey.
The driver assist technology is just that - a means of assisting your decision process - but does not absolve you of the duty to take full and proper notice of your surroundings.

Does the vehicle activated sign not show what your speed is? Your confirms you are doing 30, but you should heve slowed to 20.
only newer signs show the required speed and a message to slow down.

It is not a 100% reliable system. A road that I regularly drive on has a bend where the side road has a 20 sign which the car picks up, even though I did not drive down the side road.
Worse still, half a mile down the same road, the car changes to 60mph even though there is no signs at all. Apparently, it's because there was a 60 sign there in the past.0 -
What "chance" are you looking for?

Have you the latest Software in the cars system?
The road sign is the one to drive by the car is just an aid.

so you could effectively be doing 60 in a 20
(Whether it would actually be an offence would depend on what the actual TRO (?) stated)

The section where the 60 comes up is a 30. I have actually been on the A1 a few times where it was a 60, and the car stated 100mph.

"My car only reads the signs on the left hand side of road ."
What do your eyes read? Why just rely on "beeps" to warn of exceeding the speed limit?

If your SatNav directed you to drive over a quayside and into the sea, would you just follow its directions because "it must know what it's doing" ?
Driver assistance devices are all well and good, but ultimately it's your responsibility to use your eyes and drive according to the road and traffic conditions and obey any signage that may not be registered by your car's computer.
