"If you don’t have standard documents, some banks or fintech apps (like Monzo or Starling) can sometimes verify you digitally or accept alternatives"
Some of the "digital" verification checks will make use of a third party credit reference agencies (Experian, TransUnion etc) - which requires your details with them to be up-to-date and accurate.

Post office if you want to deposit cash. Beware of the charges…

If you want to deposit cash, go for traditional high street bank. Beware of money laundering regulation if you do it too often or with large sum… They could block you from accessing the account for investigation…

You generally need two lots of documents:
- a Government issued photo ID
- a document with your name and address on - for example a utility bill, a bank statement, a letter from the HMRC or DWP
If you haven't actually tried applying anywhere, now might be a good time to give it a go, so you can narrow down any problems you might encounter, instead of asking general questions which don't progress your application.

You ring them up and ask that they send you a letter confirming your tax code. I would not mention the real reason you are asking for it in case they get arsey with you.
Most banks have a primary and secondary lists for ID for when electronic verification is not available.
Primary is normally Passport and Photo Driving Licence (with correct address).
Secondary is things like the HMRC letter I mentioned and other things where they might accept an existing customer to vouch for you .(These days very difficult to get them to do unless asked by say social services etc)
