A squib is a small firework. If it gets wet, it fizzles out and fails to go off with a bang. Because of this, it is used to describe an event or idea that falls flat and completely fails to live up to expectations.

It's a joke - you missed the comment said damp squid not squib

I use it sometimes if the group is likely to know IT Crowd to reference it

The original phrase of damp squib likely comes from the era of flintlock rifles which used the squib in the gun as the fuse/ignitor charge and if it was damp it wouldn't fire properly and the bullet wouldn't travel anywhere and could in theory get stuck in the barrel

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I sent them video evidence. Additionally given the rejection was purely based on false data surely the ombudsman will not look on it favourably.

Even weak evidence (if they believe it to be) is better than no evidence for the ombudsman

" the severe defects of the car (pulling into lanes even if well within own lane, braking suddenly at high speed and up to 6 seconds to move from a stop) "

I am not sure you are describing actual faults. All of these sounds like typical characteristics of the driver assistance technologies. The key part of driver assistance technologies is "assistance". You still need to remain alert and in control of the vehicle. We do not yet have self driving systems that allow you to just sit back and be chauffeured.

Have they looked at the evidence and accepted the car is faulty?

Whilst it should do that under specific circumstances it should not when I'm well within my own lane nor pull into opposing traffic. It also shouldn't try and brake without me telling it too (and there being no car in front for the collision detection) and 6 seconds is excessive for the car to react to the accelerator being pushed. I am not asking to be chauffeured and I am always in control of the car (other than when fighting to keep it in the lane) however I don't expect safety features to actively put me in danger.

They looked at my evidence but said that it was "inconclusive" as the road tests they conducted had no evidence of an intermittent fault. Subsequently I found out that the road tests just flat out never happened. Guess it's in the hands of the ombudsman now but I've documented everything including evidence of potentially fabrication of the tests. Unless they have something which they haven't shared with me I'm hoping on balance of probability and the fact all the evidence is from my side (including the fact that the finance company admitted not following correct procedure and that the car was "road tested" when it wasn't) brings it down on my side.

The problem is you still don't have any evidence of a fault. If they have determined it "inconclusive" its still your problem. If it really is faulty, it would be easy to capture it on dashcam video - because you could trawl through it and highlight the time(s) it happens, and it would be plain to see.

I would forget about trying to prove they're lying, or didn't road test it, or procedures weren't followed, etc etc and focus on proving the fault.

Which ombudsman are you referring to?

The financial one as it's with the finance company (the complaint)

I sent them 5 dashcam videos narrated showing the car not moving off and there are clear cases where the car is clearly being pulled to the right (narrated by me)

This is going to get slightly complicated, you seem to be conflating what you think you are showing with what you are actually showing, your narration is totally meaningless as far as evidence is concerned.

You said the car takes six seconds to start moving after you press the accelerator and you have dashcam of that, but you do not because a dashcam does not have visibility of the accelerator, it just points ahead, so you might have video of you sitting at a green light for six seconds, but that is only evidence that you were sat at a green light for six seconds. You would need a camera at a different angle, recording the pedal as well. We are still missing details of what car this is, manual, automatic, petrol, diesel, electric etc. What actually happens when you press the throttle, engine revs if ICE, brakes refuse to disengage, automatic gets stuck in neutral, EV does not respond etc. we need more details you want us to understand what the actual issue is and if you are unable to explain it to us then you are going to fail at the ombudsman as they will not ask for more evidence, they will just reject based on the inadequate evidence you present to them.

Does the car pull to the right or is it trying to maintain a lane it is seeing incorrectly? As far as I can see no Suzuki has lane change assist, it has a lane keeping system, which will try and stop you drifting out of a lane, in the UK with poor road markings and narrow lanes those systems can sometimes be unreliable.

The breaking function is supposed to be a crash avoidance system, but it highly depends on which car you have, what system it has installed (camera, radar, hybrid) and the circumstances. They can sometimes freak out with parked cars at the side of the road and overtaking them, they can sometimes brake earlier than some drivers would do so, they can sometimes trigger due to odd conditions or when blinded, they can sometimes also trigger erroneously. Does the car show the collision warning?
