But they only have an obligation to tell you about things that will definitely affect travel, not everything that might.

Normally you just claim and the insurer will assess which sections may respond but if you arent happy with their decision it can be worth pointing out exactly why inc which section you believe should respond.

Many basic policies only cover you getting from home to the initial destination of your holiday and then from the final destination of your holiday to your home. It doesnt cover other transportation between destinations within your holiday.

The OP has been a little unclear in exactly what they had booked and what actually happened after they realised the train wasnt running. Reading between the lines they did actually have the holiday but missed one part of it (eg a tour of Italy covering Rome, Milan, Venice and Puglia but they had to skip the Milan part) that they happen to claim was the bit they were looking forward to the most. Whilst travel insurance with Cruise cover does cover a missed port of call it's often a relatively token £100 value.

So based on the answers, did you contact the travel co when you arrived in Italy & realised no trains?

What did they advise?

What did other people booked on same holiday do?

Can we take it that you decided to return home @ that point?

Yes they didn't get back to us for a few hours by which time we had tried taxis companies etc all days they couldn't guarantee getting us there to catch the next train which was the berninia express through the Swiss mountainous which was the reason for going no idea what other people did. Yes we could see that the only flight home that day was filling up IE we looked a few times so decided we should book to come home as we had nowhere to stay at that time. Or next girl stay was at the end of the train journey, .
