Gym contract

Sign of the times. They will just blame the company for lax security. Fail on the main point that they did not take any security precautions themselves.

"...appeared to be..." could be the most important element of that comment.

I would understand it to mean that they can - at their discretion - refuse entry to individuals even if they have had their photo taken and/or provided valid ID.
I would not take it to mean that they can waive the photo/valid ID bit and let just anybody off the street onto the premises.
I'd say the gym were in breach of their own T&Cs…
I'd also suggest the OP sue the gym for the loss of their property.
Any notice saying "Valuables left at owner's risk" would likely be deemed unfair or otherwise invalid if the gym by its own rules purports to be a secure area but breaks those rules by allowing anybody in

I mentioned up thread about any other individuals who suffered a theft on the same occasion.
That could be relevant in terms of the extent to which the gym and / or the OP are contributory to the outcome.
Given the comments the OP has made about access, it doesn't seem as though the staff have necessarily respecting confidence so would likely have shared if others also suffered loss at the same time.

Not clear to me that the condition is meant to be for the benefit of the security of gym members' possessions. See also clause 14.9, and the OP hasn't clarified how the loss occurred.

I didn't inspect the items for authenticity, if you're alluding to them being fakes? I just closed the locker and found another one.

Well they won't be the brightest bulb in the pack if they've spent £5k on a coat and a bag 😄Either that or they're so filthy rich that they don't care if they lose £5k of stuff

I used to work in a gym. Thefts were very rare, but one time someone broke into a locker and stole a £2k laptop. We didn't take responsibility (it's a locker not a safety deposit box) and there was no CCTV. We were mortified though that this happened to one of our members and gave the victim several months free membership. I think GymBox have acted appallingly here.
