What action can you take when the company do not comply with their own T&C

How does the OP know which individual broke into the locker and stole the stuff?
How do they know about the trial membership and the lack of ID? Were there only 2 people in the gym, the OP and this other person?

Ask the OP.
It was his claim.

If it's at their discretion, doesn't that mean they can opt to waive the photo ID bit?

They're in the changing rooms but the cameras are pointed at the lockers, not the benches. I was warned when I went towards the lockers with not much on 😆

They should be interested if £2500 of stuff is stolen.

Well that will depend on what force. Many will only take details & in effect that is all they do, other than adding a stolen marker on system.

One might imagine that the thief had targeted several lockers, not just the one. The total losses from all customers could be high.

Was the locker locked?
'Club Users must provide their own padlock or may purchase one from reception'
It would seem rather trusting to leave items worth £2500 in an open locker.

I see lots of people leaving their valuables in a locker where they might turn the lock, but don't padlock it. Last week in a local authority gym I opened an un-padlocked locker and there was what appeared to.be a Chanel handbag and a Moncler jacket - i closed it again and turned the lock, but personally I wouldn't have left £5k+ worth of stuff unsecured like that.
